Thanks for the great pics!

Your cat pics especially made me laugh! We used to have a horse named Joy that reminds me a bit of your buddy. She was always into everything and afraid of nothing! :gig

:love LOVE the pics....what would our lives be like if we didn't have our animals???
Thanks... I agree about how different things would be without animals. Especially as a quiet introvert, single with no kids and a less than close or happy relationship with my family. Old Skye's mane has held many tears... gallons, probably.

LOL You think the cats are funny in the pics, try living with them. Diva more than lives up to her name - she totally rules the place. She keeps Rio in line and naps with Buford and determines when / IF one of the other cats gets to come in my room.

Buddy is awesome. He chases Rio and Rags then they turn around and chase him. When I call them off he comes running over to see what's up. I am working on a quicker "trigger finger" so I can catch a photo of him with Rio , nose to nose and Rio licks his face.

Beautiful animals :love and those are very good pics. Rio looks like one I used to have. He was amazing. You should submit the pic of Agnes and the one of Rio in the flowers for the Pic of the week.

Thanks :)

Today has been a very grumpy day. For my "therapy" I took 3 small pumpkins out and broke them in pieces for the chickens. I removed the seeds first and will roast them later. This evening the pumpkin shell was paper thin

Meaties are supposed to ship on Wednesday. The oat grass is growing in their run, hopefully will be nice and thick by the time they go out. Looks like I am going to have to get a couple of totes out of the closet and keep them inside the first week anyway - temps in the low 50s at night. :sick

This weekend is packed busy, so I don't think I will be able to work on my to do list. What this means for me is getting up earlier and no nap before work until stuff is done.

My number one project has got to be clearing out space for hay.
I have to call the foster coordinator and get feed for Buddy, so maybe that will help me remember to ask for hay as well. I also need to get details on Saturday's fundraiser trailride... since I'm not riding I can help out at the pavillion.

I cleaned the chickenhouse and emptied it on the compost pile, but I still need to put something down on the dirt floor.

Also need to move the small water trough for the horses up to my house so I can take care of Skye as the nights get cooler.

I am off work next week!! I just remembered!! WOOT!

ANTS! I have fireants in my meatie run, and the chicks are supposed to ship tomorrow. I have fireant poison, but I don't really want to put that out because I want to turn the chicks out after a week. Will that be long enough? Is there a safe for chicks / deadly for fireants concoction out there?

I used to bathe the dogs with Bronner's eucalyptus soap then pour some of the soapy water on the worst located anthill I had.
They didn't die, but they moved out of the hill completely. Flattened the whole thing about a week later and it was totally empty. Not sure if it's safe for the chicks when it's fresh, but it would break down fast and could be washed away once it worked.

"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" is doing a build about 2 miles from my house.

My nephew's high school marching band will be playing for the reveal on Sunday. Evidently this will be a Christmas episode because they are doing the same "parade" they did for the Disney Christmas parade this past year (the only high school band invited '09).

I sure wish they did more logical homes for folks, it is a shame to see so much hope and promise dashed on the rocks of taxes, utility payments and foreclosures.

Anyway -
I have ants in the meatie run and they (chicks) are shipping in the morning. I have to buy chick starter, my hen's layer, horse feed for Skye, special diet for Buford and some litter for the chicks.

I will probably get the meaties Thursday morning; also have to take T12 to school early.

Friday I have an appt with J, have to pick up feed for Buddy, T12 is playing with the local high school band and then a group of us from work are going out.

ALSO on Friday, a lady from work is bringing me some venison and some wild hog meat! I have never had wild hog, so I may be cooking it up for the dogs and chickens!

I'm sorry... somehow I missed this totally last night. Thanks! I don't have eucalyptus soap, but I am sure I can find some somewhere? And it surely can't be any worse than ant poison for chicks!

Speaking of chicks :th
I went today and bought litter and a red bulb for the brooder light. I also picked up unmedicated starter and a bigger feeder. I went by TSC (I think I'm in love lol) and got a container of zip ties. I will just zip the hardware cloth together over the pool once I move the chicks out.

According to the weather channel, for the 10 day forecast our low temps are supposed to be anywhere from 54-66 at night... with a brooder light and protection from wind what is the earliest I can put them out in a kiddie pool?

I have to add to my running around tomorrow.... Skye choked on her feed. It was absolutely terrifying. I called the vet and gave her some Banamine. After abotu 20 minutes she started settling down. I am still a wreck though.

I put mine outside when they are completely feathered out when the temps dip below the 50s. They will be okay inside for about a week or so and they will start to get pretty stinky by then. Mine have been outside in a truck bed from the beginning though this time. They are out with a one sided tractor now at 3 weeks but they are almost completely feathered out. Still have a lamp on them but have decreased it to a lower wattage.
