I definitely prefer cooler weather!! We finally had an index of 104 before we got a little sprinkle of rain. Not even a measurable amount and certainly no help for a woods fire in the next county over - it is so big ash and smoke are taking over our county. Even inside my work place the smoke smell is eye-stinging strong.

I'm terribly sorry to hear about Buford!! I wish I had comforting words. :hugs It's a hard thing to lose such a good friend and companion.

My mom had one of her dogs cremated and his ashes are in a wooden box. She has instructed me that when she and her husband die, they want to be cremated and everyone's ashes scattered on their favorite mountain, on their favorite trail. I must recite this while I lay them all to rest together. http://rainbowsbridge.com/poem.htm

I hope you find relief from the heat soon.

Thanks, I appreciate the kind thoughts.
My vet encloses a poem in every sympathy card (every pet death they are aware of gets one from the clinic). They used to use The Rainbow Bridge... they put "The Last Battle" in my card for Buford.

The Last Battle
If it should be that I grow frail and weak,
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this, the last battle, can't be won.

You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.

We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end

And hold me firm and speak to me,
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree,
It is a kindness you do to me

Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.

Don't grieve that it must be you,
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close,we two, these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

On a MUCH brighter note, Rio didn't have to have his surgery!! The ortho surgeon was kind of puzzled - all swelling, pockets of fluid, indications of arthritis (which weren't severe) etc are gone. He still does a little favoring of that leg, but not nearly enough for the surgeon to want to cut him open and do a major surgery. So, he is here sleeping at my feet - comfortable and content.

I'm really glad about Rio as well! There are a few questions I am waiting for my vet to call me back this afternoon for, but I don't think they will effect this decision.

Now, on top of all of my other animal drama, I am missing a cat. 13yr old Elmo hasn't been seen in a couple of days. I raised him from 2wks old and then he went kind of crazy and has been outside the last several years. He comes and goes but we haven't seen him and it's been long enough we are worried now. I am headed to animal control, but I really don't think I will find him there.

He was a very good friend to Buford. Buford was almost 2 when I got Elmo and he took it upon himself to help raise him. Buf would pick the tiny kitten up by the head (too small for nape of the neck) and carry him to where they could lay together and he could give Elmo a "bath" (after which I had to really bathe him to get the slobber off). They were big buddies right up to the end, and now Elmo is missing too. :hit

hey baby!

that is a beautiful picture - it looks like Elmo rubbed just a few too many times on Bufords chin and got some of the golden on his sweet little head.

hopefully he's just layin in the weeds waiting for it to cool down. i know its agonizing waiting for the return.

*hugs*
