Gee - I'm sorry I never responded to your question about the eggs!! I got all wrapped up in stuff and then our computer crashed again.

FWIW, I've done all sorts of stuff to eggs that you shouldn't do if you want to hatch them. I've stored them in the fridge for a few days, forgot to turn them, messed up on the humidity/temperature etc and they still turned out OK (most of the time, anyway).

OMG - I actually just realized I did not turn the eggs before I left for work! With 2 sick people at home I just plain ol forgot! Good thing they're home; I'll put a call in to them.

I'll be the odd ball and say that you shouldn't throw out those eggs that have been sitting on the counter for a week until you're 100% certain you don't need to put them in the bator. Afterall, what does it hurt to put them in? They'll either incubate or they won't.

I candled the majority of my eggs last night (7 days into incubating). What's funny is that I marked each side of the egg with either an X or an O so I'd know what side I'm on and on most of the eggs I could see a little black dot (which is the chick) inside the egg near the X. I couldn't see any veins, but my eggs are all dark brown which makes seeing the veins harder. I just look for the little black dot somewhere in the egg - once I see that I know it's good to go. What's really neat is that in a few days that little black dot will start moving all around when I put the light to the egg!

Sorry your knee isn't doing so well! You should try to take it easier, but I know that's not always possible.

Good luck with them goaties! I hope your parents give in; I love my goats to peices and think they're so much fun to be around. Keep showing them pictures!

Thanks... and no worries, I appreciate your reply anytime you can give them!
My eggs show as about half of the egg dark, but today I used a different flashlight on a green one and I could just make out veins. I guess I'll try candling again on Sunday or Monday, then I'll just leave them alone and see what happens. Hopefully they'll do whatever they are going to do before I have to leave for Texas! I really have to plan these things better lol

Where is the dark portion? Does it sorta move around inside? It may just be the yolk. As the chick gets bigger the dark mass gets bigger too because the chick uses up the yolk as a means of food.

I'd say the next time you candle to look for a little black dot, not veins. As I mentioned I can't see any veins in my eggs because they're all dark brown, but I did see the little black dot.

It is like the whole top half is dark... as if there is a thickness coming down from the top of the egg along the sides.
BUT today on 2 of the green eggs I definitely saw veins and I THINK I saw movement in one! Wicked cool!!

Last night my 14 1/2 year old Lab, Buford, slipped off of his bed and got trapped between his bed, the nightstand and the wall. I was at work so have no idea how long he was like that, but he was in bad shape when I got home. He was barking and had worked himself into a frenzy - panting so hard his whole body was rocking, drooling and his hind end was completely useless... I guess numb / asleep. I put him back on his bed, gave him his pain meds and a bowl of milk diluted with water. Every few minutes I'd lift him up but he just kept falling (I'd catch him). After about 40 minutes he was up walking but sideways and running into stuff. Poor darling - as soon as his feet hit the grass he peed and peed.
He ate a little and then I helped him get situated on his bed and he slept through the night - still panting some in his sleep though. He is still panting like crazy today so I am taking him to the vet this afternoon for a sanity check (mine).

I think it is too late, but I am going to go ahead and try planting my Yukon golds either today or tomorrrow.

I am going to go and buy some fresh milk (not raw but heavy cream and from a local-ish dairy) and maybe some of the fresh veggies and such this particular little store carries.
Nephew J15 has a baseball game tonight, then I think I am just going to go to bed early and call it a day. Blah.
