Thanks all.... the vet said the heavy panting is most likely from pain. They gave him a new pain med but I hadn't used it because his old one was doing ok. Dr C said to give him the new one again today(gave it last night) and he will call me (from home) tomorrow.
The receptionist was teary eyed when we got there, she wouldn't let me finish telling her about how Buford was doing last night. As I was leaving Dr C stooped down and held Buford's face in his hands and talked just to him. I love my vets.
Dr C said he was actually caught off guard by how quickly Buford is declining - before October his bloodwork was that of a 5 yr old and he got around slowly but without pain.

Difficult days ahead, looks like. :(

So sorry, AL. I hope he'll be okay, or at least you'll be able to keep him comfortable.

That sounds like our old horse Joe. Nobody ever guessed his age right, he acted and looked like a young horse well into his 30's. His teeth were even that of a younger horse and except for the fact that he was registered and we knew the person that had him the majority of his life you would have sworn someone made a mistake about his age. Always healthy, always sound, always ready... until the last three months of his life when he was 32. It was like all of his years caught up with him at once. Sad to see and hard to let the old boy finally go.

I am sorry to hear Buford is in this situation. He looks like he is a wonderful dog. :hugs

THanks... he seems to be better today - which feels weird to say since he is still in obvious pain. Vet said give him the weekend on the new med, then there is one more we can try and then it becomes a quality of life thing. I won't make him spend the rest of his life in pain to spare me hurting. :(

I took a couple dozen eggs and spent an hour visiting with Mr Old Neighbor and his wife. Poor guy has a bantam hen with some chicks shut up in a pen. He moved the pen and a wooden block fell on one of the chicks and killed it. When I left he was still covering his face with his hands saying "poor little chick..."
He called a friend of his to come over and check my tiller lol

We talked more about goats :D . He has a small pen that would probably be just right for 2 goats. He has the same problem I do in that he only has an acre. His is even worse because the Bad Neighbor hates him and would report him. The Bad Neighbor adores me (when he was sober he and his wife were my parent's best friends) and always stops me to talk. I told Mr ON I'd just tell the Bad Neighbors the goats were mine and that he was keeping them for me. He said he'd have to think about it... said he sure does miss goat's milk, that his son was raised on it. :fl

It is gorgeous outside today - not too warm, a light breeze, abundance of sunshine and blue skies. Still too early to get serious in the garden, but after my chores I might just go sit in the sun a while.... until Mr ON's friend gets here lol

That is way to cute! Sorta looks like what my little doeling kids were doing this morning, except they were slipping on ice when they'd come down from the air...if only this durn snow would melt! they did venture more out into their pen where the really fun toys are, but they more or less stay close to the barn where it's nice and warm.

they are sooo cute! Did you see the Christmas one?

I candled my green eggs yesterday and saw veining... even thought I saw movement in one. Tomorrow is 2 weeks since I set them.

ETA - someone at BYC said they probably won't hatch at 21 days, that they are late developing. We could have a problem as I will be 5 hours west of Houstion 3 days after they were SUPPOSED to hatch. oops
