I understand too. Whoever says, it's just a dog, cat, horse, etc doesn't understand, and cannot get it. :hugs

Just wanted to say how sorry I am to hear about Buford. I understand perfectly -- I've had a dog that was a wonderful companion through a lot that I lost 15 years ago, and I still think about him.

My little kitty now has sat on my chest and purred at me through some of the hardest times in my life, and I feel sick when she's not doing well.

Animals can give such comfort, and when they have been with you through things, I think it's even harder to deal with their suffering.

Pets should have about a 70 year lifespan.
:hugs

I'm so sorry about Buford. I'm going through the exact same thing with my Scooter. He'll be 15 in May. He's still healthy and happy, but his hind end is failing him. Some days he does much better, and some days he practically sways while standing up. Breaks my heart. I'll be 30 in April, so I've had him half of my life. I'm not sure WHAT I'll do without him. :hugs :hugs :hugs

Aww, I am so sorry about your loyal companion, Buford. Its tough when they come to that point in life. We had a Golden for 15 years...and a Siberian husky for 13 yrs. Loseing them was like loseing a part of me. :hugs This is never an easy decision.

I just wanted to echo what everyone else is saying about Buford. It's so hard when they get older. I have a 13 year old Husky that is still going strong but I know the day is coming when we may have to make that decision as well. Hang in there. :hugs

I'd ask the vet about these things:
Adequan
Metacam
Laser light treatment
chiropractic

I have seen these things work wonders and extend a dogs life. There comes a point where nothing can be done though, and the kindest thing can be to say goodbye even though it is the hardest thing. :hugs

I know it is hard to lose a dear one, but it sounds like he has had an excellent run...and was very lucky to have the life he has already had. He doesn't want you to be upset over him and probably knows when you are, so try for his sake to cherish his last days and celebrate his life when he passes.
Dogs lives are never long enough.

Don't worry too much over the temp spike in the incubator. Just monitor it and get it back to where it should be. It takes hours for the inside of the eggs to reach the temperature that the thermometer reads so if it was fine the night or day before I'm sure you caught it in time.

Thanks so much everyone. I actually read these yesterday but was moved beyond knowing what to say.
Took Buford to the vet and he is doing great on the latest greatest miracle drug - Tylenol.
We went ahead and drew bloodwork for his 6 month senior profile since it is due the end of the month anyway. My vet really would prefer to not have him on Tylenol long term so we are starting him on gabapentin - a med that can be used at a high dose for seizures or a lower dose for pain.
He is eating his chicken and rice, and I even shared some of my heavy cream whole milk with him (can't have too much of that though, besides the $ it has too much protein).
While I am gone to Texas he will stay at the vet. They said for me to bring his bed because they are going to put him in one of the exam rooms at night with cage mats on the floor so he doesn't slip. Then they will move him to the doc's office during the day. All so he can be away from the kennel chaos and near them while they are working. I love my vet.

I candled my eggs today and can't really see anything so I am just going to leave them alone and see what happens. "lockdown" is Friday, hopeful hatch day is Sunday. If they don't hatch I am debating starting more when I get back from Texas or just going to the feedstore! :p

My potatoes are coming up, peas are getting a little bit bigger, and onion transplants seem to have taken hold. I have a few tomato sprouts still fighting for their lives.... I don't see how they could possibly be ready to transplant, much less produce, any time in the near future!
