Ahhhh, Christmas. A time of Joy, Happiness, and family. HA!!! Not around here. Its sad to think...but I really and truley DREAD it. They all want to exchange gift cards, and booze! I dont like either one. They all still insist on comeing to our place....its central to everyone, and easy access, and we have lots of room. AND, because we butcher a hog or 2 every year, they "expect" me to supply the hams. :duc
All I want for Christmas....
Fencing...posts...and canning jars. AND PEACE!!!!!
I think you would be surprised by all of the people that dread Christmas! When I was at the Alternative school it was the WORST time of the year. About three weeks before Christmas break the kids would go bonkers. Most of them would have huge anxiety buildups over their "family time", which usually involved large amounts of drugs, booze and often violence. :(

I think FarmerChick is on to the right idea EXCEPT make it a little store bought turkey ham and a nice big bottle of ROT GUT! :D

Oh and I forgot ... mail it to them!

Well, most likely, like every year, I will just grin and bear it. I was thinking this year of gifting home made laundry soap....but then remembered, it doesnt have the "flowery scent" that commercial soaps have. I prefer it NOT have the scents. I dont like to smell like a basket of laundry! :p
I guess, visa gift cards, or wally world gift cards are in.
I am STILL going to ask for canning jars, lids, and a new waterbath canner. I told my son I wanted a pasta machine. Then he saw the prices....guess I wont be getting that! LOL Hubby is going to look into getting me a weaving loom. :fl THAT would make my year!! Then everyone would get wool blankets.! HAHA!

Have you checked your local thrift shops, freecycle or Craigslist? Our local thrift, which usually overprices everything just had a complete hand crank pasta machine with dies (made in Italy) for $10.

Thrift shops definitely!

Those pasta machines are another of those "gourmet's gotta have it - then never uses it and pitches it" items. Like dehydrators, and bread machines only weirdo's like us use the darned things. :D Might as well let some spoiled materialistic "richey" do the exensive buying and then bring we can home their discards in perfect condition and CHEAP!

One thing we all have to remember while giving gifts----you have to gift what that person likes.

If we like handmade SS stuff----surely not everyone likes that stuff.

Give a gift you know THAT person would like. Asd much as we want them to like "our stuff and our ways" many don't.

So the best gift is one that when you give it, you truly had that person's likes in mind.

Stinks but true..LOL

I know what I want---why doesn't everyone else want that too!!! HAHA

My SIL is neighborhood, car pools, and high heels to the max. I can't give her anything homemade cause I know it isn't wanted. I just get her some fancy creams and lotions on sale and she is thrilled. Would I want that, nope--but she loves it! I get that big smile when she opens her goodie bag and I know I did well for her. You have to gift what that person wants.

Easiest on everyone! :)

I have used my Atlas pasta machine for Sculpty Clay projects or anything that needs extreme flattening, like a piece of bread for a diet fruit pie crust.
