Actually, compared to last year this year is a breeze with no worries. I never have been one to be very stressed out. Usually when I start feeling stressed out, I just stop. Seriously. I will stop what I am doing and think for a minute. I may or may not finish a project that is stressing me out. Depends on the stress level and if I can find a way to finish it without the stress. Holiday stress was reduced by me a long time ago. I have no problem walking away from people who stress me out. If they are in my home, I will go to another room, close the door, prop up my feet and read or I have taken my keys, got in my car and left my house, and them there. If I am at their house its even easier. I just leave.
I reached the conclusion years ago that I really don't need it, I don't have to deal with it, and you can't make me. na na naaanaaa na na
I feel the same way about forums, and phones, and a million other things. I have a big red X in the top right corner of my computer. It works perfectly. Just because the phone rings does not mean I have to answer it. Stalled in traffic - the most current edition of Better Homes and Gardens is laying in the passanger seat. Traffic moving slowly, turn up the radio, dance in my seat and sing along really loud.
As for the Holidays. I told my family years ago what I would be doing in the future, after an extremely stressful (more so than usual) family gathering. No one liked it a first. And they seemed a little stressed that first Christmas. But amazingly enough after a couple of years of my showing up with no presents, 1 dessert and a tray of finger foods, they all decided, hey, this works.

same with me 2dream

I have made Christmas stress free now also. I am done. Only got to wrap some toys. No biggie..LOL

We all decided no presents for adults, kids only (and now being older teens they get gift cards and love them)

It is an option. We stress out the hoildays and it is up to us to de-stress them.

I think everyone goes thru the stages of stressful Christmas, but then one day, boom, you wake up and realize---I don't have to do that!!!!LOL

I woke up! :) yippee

Only reason Christmas isn't stressful for me, I choose not to worry about it.

I used to make sure I had all my shopping done before Thanksgiving, and everything was wrapped and hidden by December 1.

I still have stuff that needs wrapped, but well, not worried about it. Kids will be happy with it whether it's wrapped or not.

QA - they will probably be happier because they don't have to go through all that trouble of unwrapping them. Straight to playing.

It seems stressful every year. I think most of it is the money. My advice to anyone just starting their family. Just get the kids a couple presents on Christmas. When I was a kid my Dad worked for a large dept tore that only had toys at x-mas. He was the buyer. The suppliers would give him a bunch of sample toys. Of course those ended up under the tree. So we usually had a lot of toys and I carried the tradition over. It wasn't too bad with 3 kids. Now that I have 8 altogether, it is stressful. I remember x-mas as a wonderful time as a child. It just isn't the same as an adult. This year I'm taking some Valium before the presents get opened.

I think that old dirty word politics has a lot to do with all the stress on the forum. If you think about it. During the Bush years the people that liked him were happy for about the 1st 6 years. The people that didn't like him didn't like him and we had a lot of reasons. However he inherited a good robust economy and although it was at the beginning of a down turn, most of us didn't know it. So even though a lot of us grumbled out the war and a lot of other issues we at least had jobs and some money for the most part. Then around 2006 there started to be signs that the country was indeed heading the wrong way in a number of areas. By 2007 we were seeing job losses and housing was starting to tumble. It was being kept secret though. In 2008 the cat was out of the bag. Massive job losses and foreclosures. Damage is done but wait we have a new symbol of hope. His name is Obama and he's Superman. He'll have this mess cleaned up in no time. Eleven months later a lot of people are still without jobs. Even though the top end of the country is doing better, the bottom end is still sucking wind. As for Obama he is stuck holding the giant fart from the guy before him. We the people are all wondering if things are ever going to get better. By this time next year we will probably have a lot of new faces in Congress. Most with an R behind their names. It will be a very uncertain time. Lets hope they can agree on something and that Obama doesn't spend all his time joking about his veto stamp like Bush used to. They have to work together and get us out of this mess.

Please don't get upset at me. I'm not pointing fingers or calling names. Just stating why people are stressed on the line right now.

To all you that are suffering during this season because of financial hardship. I hope you are able to scrape something together. I hope someone sticks a hand out to help you. Lor is having surgery on Monday and is going to be in the hospital over X-mas. So we are celebrating X-mas this weekend.

To all of you that believe Jesus is the reason. Have a Merry Christmas. To everyone else Happy Holidays.

I think a lot of it has to do with the weather. While I prefer colder weather, I don't prefer overcast and days on end of rain and fog.

If the weather is nasty, many people stay cooped up in the house. People don't get sick from going out in the cold, they get sick from staying cooped up. Cabin fever, LOL.

I'm sure this year may be worse because of 'politics', economy, holiday stress, or whatnot; but I think it's just the weather and season. Many people are very photosensitive, my mother in law is one of them. If the sun is out, she's fine; but after a few days of straight overcast, she's feeling bummed or stressed.

Threads discussing politics are always hotbeds for arguments, best just to stay away from them in general.

May she have a speedy recovery, and may this be a wonderful holiday for you both!

Here Here Wolf Kim. I am sick of politics. Money is tight and gloomy weather take their toll. I do what I can and it is what it is.
