Lucky for me, folks around here are under no illusions as from whence the eggs come....you can scrub it all you want but it won't wash away the fact it comes from the back end of a chicken! 
The only time I've ever had messy eggs was when I fed them a bag of shelled corn this winter....nasty, runny poops! Never do that again! Now my eggs come out clean as a whistle and with hardly ever a smudge!
