Yes, I used real maple syrup, not cheap:

Mix one part baking soda with three parts (pure, 100%) maple syrup in a small saucepan.

Stir Briskly as it is heating.

Heat the mixture for 5 minutes (which means do not use heat that is too high).

Take 1 teaspoon daily, or as needed.

But actually, a lot of people get relief from baking soda mixed with a little water. I'm not sure the maple syrup is necessary...but it tastes better that way!

If your mother is like mine, I'll say 'good luck'. :/ Most people that are on what's considered 'traditional' medicine won't even consider simple alternatives. My mother seems to think if she's taking a boatload of pills, she's doing all she can to take care of herself. Agh.

A simple remedy instead of Keopectate is a tsp of cornstarch mixed with half a cup of water. It kinda coats the stomach and down the chute, take it with each runny poo and it will take care of the poo's. For some reason, there's a connection of stomach problems like ulcers and loose poo's.

What's crazy is that this remedy is something that my mom gave us kids when we were growing up. I reminded her of it, and she said she remembered that it did work, but she had plenty of Kao and Imodium. Well, ok.

Our7Wonders is correct about her maybe NOT having enough stomach acid. I just know that too much ACV will kick my kaboodle.

Thanks...You have given me some things to think about. You are right in the comment about older folk taking the doctor's advice without question. I may try to get her started on just a little bit of ACV. Don't want to upset the apple cart tho.

I'm trying a ACV/Honey/Water drink at this moment, and it's rather tasty, but for the life of me, I can't remember what it's supposed to be good for. It's rather tasty though. Sorta like a soda, but non carbonated.
 I know the feeling. I hate it when my husband asks why I'm doing/drinking/making some concoction and I have spaced it out.

I checked my homemade vinegar a couple days ago. Like all the gals here have said, it's sooo much better than anything you buy! I think I'm going to bottle it today and see if I can use it to get my bp down.

Every trip to the Dr. brings on more pills for Mom. She watches tv and gets every symptom she sees. I do her grocery shopping and one day when she said to look for something for her I commented I wondered how long it would be before she wanted some of that. Drives me up the wall. She enjoys ill health.

My mother had her list of Dr. Feel Good's. She would have a side effect from one drug, prescribed by one doctor, then go to another doctor for that symptom. Ricidulous. Finally, a new doctor (a guy I went to high school with!!) put her in the hospital to detox her like an addict. A few days later, she was released with orders to take a vitamin, her BP pill and thyroid pill.

Months later she came to visit, brought along a small suitcase with tons of herbal suppliments and every vitamin she could get stuffed in there. I couldn't believe it. My sister carried it to another level. She had three large shopping bags packed with all the pills she bought at stores, pronounced that she just couldn't go anywhere without all her meds.

And both of them said they felt lousy all the time. Go figure.

Some people just gotta do pills...and a counselor probably would help, too (my mom and sis). And I get paranoid taking any prescription.

I was talking to a fellow customer in the health food store and he said the ACV helped his joints and a list of other things. I bought some and some honey from a local bee keeper. I just haven't started trying it yet. I need to get on the ball!

As far as putting the ACV in the fridge I never have and I never remember my Mom putting any vinegar in the fridge.

And if I haven't said it before, welcome!

Ya, I strained some of my homemade ACV today, and plopped it in the frig, but mostly because I prefer cold or hot drinks over room temperature. I also didn't want a mother starting in there. The rest is still on top of the frig, waiting for more apple juice to go in there.
Man, that's pretty decent tasting stuff, lots better than any other vinegar I've ever had. This is my first batch and I'm glad I tried it.

The people on this forum are the best!! Lots to learn.

Thanks for the welcome :D What recipe are you using to make your vinegar? I hope to learn to make it someday soon.
