Well because of today’s activity I have cooked those beans (btw producers please take note that just because I am Cajun doesn’t mean I season my food with so much pepper to raise blisters on tongues), added a can of beans to it so I can actually tolerate it, and I have brewed a pot of afternoon coffee just because I unearthed some chaga and powdered goat’s which I dumped into my non-dairy creamer container (I read it wasn’t natural and my body wouldn’t recognize it anyway so 🤷‍♀️). And here I am, passed 7:00PM, still walking bear foot in my nightgown. But I do feel inspired by the decrease of clutter in front of me. I really love the people in my house but they are a bit messy and dependent upon me (like I’m perfectly healthy or something 🤦‍♀️). But I am grateful for the support they give me outside.

Some days it’s nice to not get dressed and just slop around all day. For you, it’s your gown. For me it’s sweat pants and sloppy big tshirt. I usually pick a rainy bitter cold day, just don’t my Carhart’s to go outside for animal chores. It’s down time and we all need that sometimes.

Good morning!! Nature called so here I am. The coffee is ready but I haven’t poured any. Tell you the truth I’m hungry and I want to cook at least 3 big eggs or 5 small ones in butter. I have a bread I baked yesterday and I figured just a slice 🤷‍♀️. But it’s complicated. 😂. First I should put on a pair of shoes because yesterday a hen walked in the house and DH came in after her so I moved the baby to block her way from passing by the heater. I just figured she’d come by me and I would catch her using my lizard snap action with my left hand. Then she flew up on the cabinet and that’s when DH caught her and that’s when all the okra seeds fell to the floor 🤦‍♀️. My bad for not picking it up and trying to just walk around it, as I cooked a young rooster and used a bunch of gifted gizzards and the organs from 3 of our own birds to make dirty rice mixes. So DH picked up the hen but I still got to pick up the seeds. And I thought I was on a good roll.
I switched my internet provider to Verizon and I am supposed to save roughly half what I am now spending on internet service. Hope that works out.
This week has been productive. After attending the funeral of my ex’s SIL…so my SIL… we decided to have a slaughter day even though HG needed to go to work. She caught the first rooster but it was DH who handed him to me. I ordinarily bleed them but when HG asked me what we gonna do I just broke his neck 🤷‍♀️. Let’s just say I temporarily went old school Cajun. Then I started plucking the hard feathers and asked her to find me a bucket for the soft feathers. DH killed the next bird…a big boy and mature so he has to be gumbo or soup. He started plucking but handed him to HG and told her to pluck. She did. The baby was good the whole time. But eventually I knew I had to bring her in to change her and feed her. So I took in two roosters and put them in the sink to finish everything up, then got the baby for some chill time. That’s when I discovered DH had another rooster. He wanted to capture everything that is loose so he can start planting. So I caught 3 hens while I was plucking; two with my hands and one with the net. Then the hen in the kitchen yesterday made 4 and DH caught another rooster in the yard so he slaughtered him too. I now have 3 mature roosters chilling in the fridge until I make gumbo Sunday so all in all we down 8 loose chickens in the yard and it’s still so noisy outside.
I know I’m all over the place. Sorry. So I can’t do anything unless I have a kitchen to work with and yesterday I was preparing for whatever. I noticed a pot that needed to be emptied and really I was gonna just be lazy and let DH deal with it but I decided to feed it to the flock. I then noticed the waterer was still empty and several eggs were needing to be picked up so I went in and asked DH to pass me a hose. Done. I started collecting eggs from the nests and two other locations the hens tried to use. DH wanted the feeder which is fine cuz it was dumped over and used for nesting. One less problem. So the tarp is totally ripped off the coop and it means the birds will get wet when it rains. I have been thinking about collecting a few hundred saw palmetto palms and use it instead of a tarp. I figured I could weave the stems through the cattle panels and be all tropical. No one can say it isn’t cost effective. I think it will probably last at least 3 years and I am pretty sure it will hold up well to wind….at least better than the tarp!!
So I am hoping no rain for a while I am expecting some game cameras to arrive Saturday. I want the backside of whoever has been riding through the orchard when wet. I put a threatening message on Facebook to scare everyone about boobie traps but I have been too tired to do what I threatened. I ordered just 3 cameras that should be able to send pictures to my phone. Looking forward to seeing lots of animals and 4 wheelers with hopefully a few faces. In the meantime I hope to start collecting the palmettos for the flock. We need to tag team this project, I think. I best bring drinks and sandwiches. Last time I went to the orchard I ended up having to mud ride to get out but that’s when I discovered others have been going. Life!!
Well those eggs haven’t cooked themselves so…
