By the world's standards, I'm poor.

By God's standards - I'm wealthy beyond measure :D (and that's not to be offensive to anyone who believes differently than I do! :) )

You say you 'let it all out here'---maybe you should be telling those 'whoever folks' that get on your nerves

sometimes you do have to just tell someone you are happy and to back off on the comments about your living situation.

I hear you tho cause most of those suits and general people working their butts off are unhappy and stuck in the rut. I was there once, while I loved my work when younger programming, as I got older I sure wanted out of the true corp. rat race, like most people I would think. :D

I make poverty income. By not having a car, I can afford ballroom dance classes. I have three months of bills in savings. I have all needs met and most wants. How is that poor?

But I often get that pitied reaction too, big sis. Retards. What do they have, really? More debt. More bills. More unused junk. More strss. Give me poverty, any day!

Farmer Chick..I used to be very good at popping off to folks about any and everything. Now though, I try not to hurt folks feelings. I know they are just clueless. This is not the first time it has rubbed me the wrong way, and won't be the last, so if I smarted off, I'd get in that nasty habit again, and I'm betta than that  I just have to vent sometimes and ya'll know what I mean ;) Besides...when the crap really does hit the fan, I want my family to know who they can come to for support. They just, as Neko so eloquently put it, "suck" sometimes right now

abi...I love being "poor" too :D

I have been poor and I have been not poor and I like not poor better. I don't mind working for someone else so that I can have a cool laptop or a comfortable bicycle. I like my stuff. It's fun, and it makes me happy. If that makes me shallow and materialistic, so be it. I don't think the rich should judge the poor, or vice versa. Honestly, people chose the way they live in life. I was born very poor and hated it and did what needed to be done so that I would not have to be poor anymore. It was a choice I made. Someone who really hates poverty can make the same choice. If they don't, clearly, they are choosing where they want to be in life. Different things are important to different people; and different people are more bothered by certain things than others are. There is no right way or wrong way, no one way to live. Some people can be happy never leaving the farm; I would go insane. Everyone is different.

Pretty dang poor here too. Money wise that is. We manage to pay for the essentials. And we feel blessed most of the time. Even though we have to work twice as hard.

There is nothing like knowing where your food comes from and that you don't need to keep up with the "Joneses". I am not nearly as terrified of loosing "everthing" as my former consumer workaholic friends and family.

And then I get my DD coming by with her new tennant, when she picks up the baby and proudly announces to him how we do everything ourselves and that she loves that she gets all their produce fresh from us :love

Oh , we are soo rich :) we have everything we need and more

It's not a right/wrong thing. I think the main issue is when the people who have "stuff" don't appreciate it and then bitch to you because they are broke! I have very wealthy friends that do work hard for what they have. One is happy and content. The other complains all the time and is a bit of a drama queen. The funny thing is those two have so much in common but don't like each other! :gig

Kale I have been on both sides as well, and I like "poor" better. I am NOT really "poor" and that was my whole point. It's folks perceptions of rich and poor. I am rich beyond measure, I just don't have tons of "stuff" or cash laying around and don't want it. My treasures are different. I have seen poor, truly dirt poor kids that hated being poor, and kids who grew into "old money" that absolutely LOATHED it too. These are the folks who need to take a break and SEE where they are headed, if anyone does. Sounds like you did, and good for you! It doesn't make you shallow and materialistic any more than not having a wad of cash and a Mercedes/Ipod/Iphone etc. etc. makes me poor ;) I did try on the shoes of others, had the wad of cash, the gadgets, and the lifestyle that went with it, and found the ones that fit me best right here where I am at now. I like my old dirty garden shoes the bestest :D

YES!! See, for me, it was about doing something I BELIEVE in and value. We could still be making money if we were willing to travel all the time and eat fast food, and yadda yadda. Well...food allergies ARE limiting, but we'd manage, but it'd be MORE stinkin work than just doing it all ourselves right HERE. It is harder, but it is worth the effort.

I actually look forward to maybe losing the house. It'd be a nightmare for DH, but I'd like to build our own on the other property, and ditch this pit myself, so I am COMPLETELY at peace, dare I say EAGER, with the prospect of moving...poor hubs  I have wanted to move for about 10 years of our 9 year marriage :p
