I wouldn't say I was necessarily offended by what she wrote, but it just seems a little out of place on this forum (along w/ some other comments she made that day on other threads). But, I've only been coming here for a couple months, and never really had any intereaction with the OP, so I could be way off base. :idunno

wow this thread went a few ways LOL

nah, it wasn't meant to offend....geez come on

but of course someone might always find a way to interpret it in a certain way and I can't control that.

I just been thinking lately that many times I pulled the plug on spending a darn dime on entertainment etc. for myself and I decided I am not doing that anymore...so I whipped out a question. And yea the economy, threat of layoff, hard times, increasing costs, etc. had me worried. (I do worry alot, but) then I decided to stop that also. I don't worry anymore. Life is too short....hell people lived thru way worse times than these and others will live thru worse maybe in the future and live, so I decided for me to spend some cash and live it up a bit and enjoy life.

remember too...we are all at different stages in life. My stage now is relax, have more fun, loosen the wallet (just a bit) and like Gina said, find a good balance. I realized I am not really in control of much in this life, a few things, I do the best I can but one thing I do want is some freedom to do stuff.

so like I said, I threw out that question and I got some wonderful responses and I appreciate those who posted wonderful replies. I was just wondering everyone's take on it in general.

Interesting thread- wonder how I missed it!

I think it is different for a couple who have different views on what is "fun". Although, I am dragging SO into the realm of home is fun and if it isn't, what will make it fun for her. ;)

We can afford to go out to nice dinners- but tonight we had the most delicious cilantro pesto pizza with home made pesto. Our home made pizzas are better than almost anything we can eat out. SO wanted to go out last night to dinner. It was...OK. I like tonight's dinner better, and I think she did, too. We haven't actually gone away for vacation in years- mostly because of the animals that need taking care of, not because of money. We would like to, but SO worries about who is taking care of the animals so much that it isn't relaxing to be away.

My idea of spending money for fun was buying my new Excalibur dehydrator. Or my alpaca fleece. Or the baby chicks. I love spending money like that!

.
This.

Are you really having fun if you are worrying about money? Choosing to not spend it is one thing, but fretting over spending it is a whole other story. I am at this point in life - if I want it, I have the cash and my basic needs are tended, I get it. I don't do a lot of credit card stuff because I have proven to myself that I am not responsible enough lol.
God willing and the creek don't rise I have a trip planned to the Rockies and another to the Smokeys after the first of the year. I'll also need a new tiller. I'll also ride my bike to the beach and just hang out for free.

I think that is what FC is saying - you don't HAVE to spend money to have fun, but if it costs money and you have it, why not?
