It's All In Your Genes is an interesting read if you can find it....I was at a conference this week and talked to a company that is supplying the company I distribute for with a new Gene SnP test kit that is WAY cooler than the last one....we used to have access to 17 gene SnP's for $250 and now we can get 44 done for around $300 I think. Coming soon. I will be watching for it, and might think to post it here. I hope they put a nice big pile of information online.

I also heard and read that magnesium is neccessary for good emotional health and brain functioning. Recently a doctor I saw also told me to eat pumkin seeds because they contain magnesium.
Magnesium is not readily available in our food, since the big agribusiness farmers don't neccessarily put it in the soil. The plants have used up what was in the soil a long time ago.
Just another reason to grow your own vegies organically!!

I simply add them to my trailmix, that I make myself, with some homegrown ingredients and some purchased ingredients.

Taking magnesium has made a huge difference about PMS. I don't cramp if I've been taking it. So I told "a few friends" (maybe a hundred or so), in case it would help them. They liked having less cramps but were amazed that they were staying NICE- on their period. Their families were very happy with it. :D If you take too much magnesium- it will cause temporary diarrhea.

Trouble is that I still get terrible cramps. I will look into magnesium! In fact I am going to start another thread on Vits.

Selenium is also another soil depletion issue. While a lot of the US has plenty of selenium, many vegetables are imported. The rest of the world does not have it like we do.

If I don't supplement with selenium and magnesium, I have constipation issues regardless of my fiber intake.

This may be tmi, but anti dep meds stop me up fiercely. No matter how much fiber, water, metamucil, etc I take.

When I had a routine colonscopy, I mentioned this to the Dr. and he said, forget drowning yourself in water, etc. Take magnesium every day. He said that is why when women take calcium, also a stopper upper, they are advised to take Cal Mag. I find Mag at Grocery Outlet, a discount grocery chain, for about a buck. Way way cheaper than CVS. It sometimes works and sometimes doesn't but at least I know that I won't be carrying around some extra poundage every day! :weee

We use a transdermal magnesium that is wonderful! I need alot and it's the best way for my to get it without getting the runs. You can soak in it - feet, bathtub, just use it like epsom salts. I tried a drink called Natural Calm but I don't like the flavors. Too much stevia in it for me, blech.
