We use a transdermal magnesium that is wonderful! I need alot and it's the best way for my to get it without getting the runs. You can soak in it - feet, bathtub, just use it like epsom salts. I tried a drink called Natural Calm but I don't like the flavors. Too much stevia in it for me, blech.
I loved the "rasberry-lemonade" flavor of it.
The magnesium in Epsom salts is skin absorbable. I wish I had an old claw foot tub.

Low stomach acid can contribute to depression. It causes a depletion of amino acids, the essential components of neurotransmitters. When acid is restored and protiens digested correctly many things can change.

most serotonin is produced in the gut by the way.

It always helps to track things back to the digestion if you can.

I too have serious issues with depression (bipolar or menopause, not sure which) and a few(2 or 3) years ago, I did see a counselor for awhile (thru my church for free) and he finally talked me into seeing a medical doctor for meds. Those helped some, but not enough and I couldn't afford to keep going back to find the right meds (no insurance & had to pay out of pocket-OUCH!) So I started looking for alternatives and found info about vitamins.
I take a multi-vitamin and additional b-complex, 325mg iron (ferrous sulfate-anemic), and Norwegian salmon oil. And being 50 and menopausal, I should include more calcium. I do feel a whole lot better and more "complete" than before. Since I'm not a medical professional I can't/won't say it's from the supplements, and it is possible (atleast in part) that I may be in an "upswing/leveling off" stage and the "healing" could be happening anyway. But I will say that I can tell when I've forgotten the supplements for a few days.
Also, they are over the counter, they sure won't hurt me as long as I don't take mega-doses, and NO side effects.

:hit me before....... :weee me after!
