Little secret...mine never have gotten less than 24% ;) My birds are some of the biggest I have seen, and for good reason. They get the BEST of the commercial feed possible, AND bugs and greens and treats. Just like with anything else, they are what you put into them. It does help immensely to start them out on 24% and then make sure they are getting other nutrients as well, like grass and bugs.

When you can't get/afford the 24% give them cooked ground meat as a treat to increase their protein intake ;) It realllly beefs them up! Monster chickens

Its mainly getting to it. We have to go an hour to get decent chick feed. Could I give ground up alfalfa as a treat?

Yeah if they'll eat straight alfalfa, mine won't :hu Any of the high protein grains will be good during the first weeks of age up to 8. They are building their little chicken muscular systems and the better quality feed is what gives them a boost. Just make sure they are getting everything they need. Check out fat/protein ratios and figure how much of each feed stuff to get to 24-28% protein. I give mine leftover meats a good bit. Especially deer meat because it is lean and high protein, and they get only corn otherwise for the day to balance it out.

Well the hutch is finally done! :woot

Its the same size as the other one. This time I got green tin instead of the red kind. :D I have to crimp some wire together but other than that its done. Ready for rabbits! :woot

I like it a lot! :D

Here is the first hay feeder I concocted for them. I put a steeple above it so I can take a bungee cord and attach the feeder to the hutch so the retarded rabbits wont mash it.

Here is one of the new buffs. She is a monster!

Here is a crappy shot of both new ones
