Thats true....Did I mention Im gonna beef the Aussies up? Im laying 24% starter to their butts. That should make em HUGE.Wannabefree said:i really just want them for their egg laying capabilities, and the boys for meat Easy to seperate early onBarredBuff said:Close enough! Little secret...mine never have gotten less than 24% My birds are some of the biggest I have seen, and for good reason. They get the BEST of the commercial feed possible, AND bugs and greens and treats. Just like with anything else, they are what you put into them. It does help immensely to start them out on 24% and then make sure they are getting other nutrients as well, like grass and bugs.BarredBuff said:Thats true....Did I mention Im gonna beef the Aussies up? When you can't get/afford the 24% give them cooked ground meat as a treat to increase their protein intake It realllly beefs them up! Monster chickensBarredBuff said:I see. Hmmmm I used that 18% purina crap maybe thats why my hens are small. I used 20 on the buffs but his are naturally huge. I wont make this mistake again. Im gonna be breeding huge hens!
Yeah if they'll eat straight alfalfa, mine won't Any of the high protein grains will be good during the first weeks of age up to 8. They are building their little chicken muscular systems and the better quality feed is what gives them a boost. Just make sure they are getting everything they need. Check out fat/protein ratios and figure how much of each feed stuff to get to 24-28% protein. I give mine leftover meats a good bit. Especially deer meat because it is lean and high protein, and they get only corn otherwise for the day to balance it out.BarredBuff said:Its mainly getting to it. We have to go an hour to get decent chick feed. Could I give ground up alfalfa as a treat?
