I think Cats are more SS than dogs but BOTH serve their purposes.............
Yeah, my dog would gas out any intruders :p That furry thing is not very SS, she eats too much, then again, lately, so do I
 There must be different cats in TN and KY ours kill mice and EAT them...........the dog keeps predators away though...........so even I guess

Alright, way to not stick with someone just because of a discount - doesn't always mean it'll end up cheaper

I don't think meaties would make it here in August...

Both of you are correct! Welp is also supposed to have an AWESOME broiler strain..........

I wouldve have liked them the following week but Labor Day mightve come in the way. They will be shipped in warm weather and killed in cool weather :D

Howdy! Well my time on the homestead is waning. :( I will be at Dads this week and Im not sure if I will be able to get on or not. So this is my last update for a few days. :hit

Anyway. We went to church this morning and no one was there. One of the sunday school teachers was gone on vacation the other was late. The song leader was gone. So church wasn't as full as usual. But still have a good sunday school and worship service.

Then come home and ate leftovers from last night's supper. Then I got all of my old backwoods home books and an orcharding magazine and went to Grannys. We spent the afternoon discussing self sufficiency. We both love to read the ask Jackie parts, they are the best. She wrote down a home canned pork n beans recipe, so we may can them. Then we are working on getting a root cellar/canning cellar type thing built in the basement. Then we read an article on growing bulbish onions so this fall I need to get to work on prepping onion ground behing my house. Its a little 200 sq ft patch. I need to lay the rabbit manure to it. Then she wants to get the oldest apple orchard redone this fall. She is gonna order eight new trees. We have three new ones in that orchard already. That orchard will have two early harvests, two cortlands, 4 storage type apple trees, 1 sauce/cider apple type tree, and then two all purpose/general apples. Im also trying to coherse her into caning beef cubes from our beef this fall. Busy, busy around the homestead!

Then we need to get our winter prep stuff together. I think my cousin is gonna come out and install our gas stove here soon. Then we will be fine during the ice storms. We have cots and a heat source in our winter SHTF place. I love doing a journal its great to just put all my thoughts down!!

Earlier this week I put a sign in the yard about Poultry For Sale. A neighbor called and asked what was for sale. I told him the two ducks and a rooster. He was wanting laying hens and I told him we werent selling any this year. But the more I think about it the more I think I will just get rid of one duck (the one who never has sat or I have gotten eggs from) and plus the red roo. Only because I want pure buffs next spring. I also have been looking at craigslist want ads to see who wants a duck or a rooster close by.

Something weird I have noticed I do is when the solstice/equinox hits to bring on a new season I start thinking about stuff to do in the next season. :hu I dont get it maybe its just the SS talking. :p

When I get back in a week, I am going to the herb plants and cutting a sprig or two off each plant and start a new plant so I can have them for next spring and fresh herbs in the winter. I plan to use most of the sage when I process my ducks into sausage. I need to get a Muscovy sausage recipe badly. Anyone got one?

Sorry for the long update!
