Yes, I'll work on that. She won't stay out of my lap long enough for me to get a good one. Have a couple of her tail.

Don't you just love babies.....even the 4 legged ones! I was really hoping Maggie, our chocolate lab, would have puppies this time but it didn't take. We never saw the dogs "stick". They tried all the time but oh well.

Well. . .my predator luck has run out.

I went to open the turkeys' pop door this morning in the back coop and found a coon inside. She was cowering up in the rafters over her kill of 18 of my 20 Buckeye and Amerucana chicks (including my rooster's junior). Ate heads off all but about 4 of them. Two Amerucana chicks escaped and were roosting with the turkeys and Wyandotte hens.

When I ran to the house to call a neighbor with a gun, the coon slipped out the small hole in which she got in. She had to get in and out by going passed my ducks and geese. The waterfowl didn't seem disturbed, but the geese were eager to flog the puppy this morning.

Picture of Dolly -- future coon dog.

But what good is she going to be to me if I have to tie her up at night? How do I train her to stay on the property and hunt down the coons?

Setting a coon trap tonight (borrowed from neighbor).

OMG Becca!!!!! I'm so sorry!!!!!!!!!!

We had a neighbor come up and shoot some coon on the back of our property, and they left the dead bodies lay where they were. I haven't had a coon problem yet since then, although I've had several coon problems before that.

As for training Dolly, we have to run to the PO real quick and ship eggs, and then I'll get back to you on that (or ask keljonma)!

Okay, first off, she is adorable!

Second soooooo sorry about the chicks. I don't know what to do about the coon. I can't believe the ducks and geese didn't raise a ruckus.
