Becky, Ernie wants to talk to you about possibly borrowing a gun...just a few things he wants to be clear on first...like 1) can you shoot it and 2) don't look at him if you blow a hole in your coop :p

Call us when you get home tonight.

Everytime I read your title to your journal I remember (in the 80's) a song titled "The Homecomming Queen's Gotta Gun!". Does anyone else remember that song?

Yeah, please get some gun tips (then share with me) from Ernie.

Oh, Blackbird, a road trip to Cabela's would be fun! :D We have one down in Wheeling.

Aly, I can't say that I'm experienced in guns and handling. I need lessons. Cousin was going to loan me his .22, but I'm nervous about that.

BBH, I don't know that song!

I can't believe it is July already. Summers are so busy that I can hardly enjoy them.

I run the bookstore at our regional church camp grounds starting this Saturday. I have a bunch of stuff to get packed up and set up. The actual camp meeting doesn't start until next Saturday. It is my last year on the board and my first year to balance my poultry farming with the need to travel 1.5 hours to camp. I've got a couple ladies to help with manning the store, so hopefully my travel will be limited.

The time for blackberries always hits around camp time. And now I'm interested in processing some sumac berries at the same time. Here is the site where I learned about sumac.

So, Aly, let me know when the sumac on your property is ready and we'll try some.

Sounds like QA is always ready for a road trip.
ROTFL Well, it doesn't take much to be ready. I don't have to technically "ask off" from a job since I'm my own boss...just have to be sure I have the animals cared for, or their care lined up (ie leave to do list for kids to complete before I return), because other than farm stuff and the occassional Dr. appt. for Ernie, my days are usually pretty open.

Except Mondays. Monday's we're either at the Auction barn or like the 20th I'm going to Meyers to pick up guinea keets...... :hide

Bec, so sorry to hear about the coon. We are battling them too. It's so scary to know what damage the critters can do in such a short time.

I HATE that coon! :somad

So yesterday morning I thought I'd one-upped the coon when all birds, including waterfowl were safe -- but coon trap was empty. I went and opened the doors to the yards for the birds in the back coop a little after 6 and left home at 7:15.

After I got home around 6pm, I went to start chores and check the animals only to find the coon slipped in some time during the day and polished of the 2 remaining chicks. Actually hung around and ate all but the wings of one. Again the water fowl and other poultry in that area were fine.

Again this morning all was well and the trap was empty. :he
