Went to Mount Hope fall swap Friday -- just to browse as neither QA or I had enough to sell. We took 4 cages and came home with those and 3 boxes full. I got 5 ducks (Saxony drake that I desperately needed, pair of pretty blue runners, and a pair of muscovy). I also got 3 cochins that will work for my breeding group. QA filled the rest up with bantam cochins and bantam Columnbian Wyandottes. :) And we were almost tempted to go back Saturday.

Gorgeous weekend here. Got some house trim painted Saturday. Now only the 4 hard to reach windows are left.

We're doing stuff around the house too, while taking advantage of the great weather we had this past week-end. We are getting rain again this week...till Wednesday, according to the most recent forecast.

TR and I haven't been to Mount Hope. It seems you and QA find quite a number of good deals there.. :D

Winter chicks arrive today -- expecting 94. We'll probably have to go to the main PO center later this afternoon for them.

It was 25 this morning with hard frost and freeze. I hope I can keep the brooder warm enough in the garage (barn). QA is planning to brood half in her main coop. It will be a challenge that we'll have to see how goes. Since 25 are being raised for our feed store friend, I sure hope we don't have many loses. :fl

Been seeing and hearing a fox near my place. It is a beautiful red color. But the screams at 2 am on the night of Oct. 30 were freaky. :ep So far it hasn't been bothering my birds -- and I pray it stays that way.

I'm off my diet and have been allowing myself too much grains, starches, sugar, and what not. Already seeing my loses creep back on. :barnie So fast!!! I sure wish I could keep away from comfort foods, but cold weather sure makes me want warm, rich foods and puts me in the baking mood. Made coconut cake for church potluck Sunday. Gave "most" of the leftovers away.

Why did I pay shipping for these chicks when I could have driven an hour + west to pick them up at the hatchery? (No time for the trip!) Instead I drive almost an hour east to get them at the PO distribution center. :he

Got home just after 9 pm last night in time to see a coyote run across my driveway. :ep I knew we have them in the area, but it had been at least a year since I saw one. Between fox, raccoon, and coyote, I'm now feeling nervous about my birds and fencing. :barnie

Maybe electric fencing is the way to go to keep your poultry safe. :hu
Years ago, one of our friends lost their roo to a fox attack...they ran electric fencing around their property. I heard this past spring that the roo we gave them is still with the flock, anyway. so it seems to have stopped predator issues for them.

Hi Becca! :frow Hey are any of you going to the Ohio National next weekend? I'm gonna see if I can pick up a few pullets, but no big deal if I don't find anything. I've never been to it before and figured I should go since it's only across town. I don't know if I'll be able to take the noise and crowds for very long though.
