I've been stealing a little time here and there on the PC at work and at the library but I still feel like I've read the last page of the book, you know? Great ending but doesn't make any sense unless you've read all the pages in between! :p

Haven't bought one thing for Christmas yet!!! Can you believe this? Have been so busy that on my days off I just want to dissolve into the couch and the down comforter and drink cocoa!

Note about egg production in the winter...

Everyone expects the egg production to go down somewhat in the winter and right after molt, don't we? Well, mine was down unusually so...couldn't figure it out...then looked out the window this morning to see....

My brown dog, Jake, the eternal thief and scrounger supreme, going in the tiny pop door of my coop. I expected loud protests from the chickens and it didn't happen......then he comes out with an egg in his mouth! Apparently the little so and so has been sucking eggs right along!!!! :rant :somad :tongue :he

Fixed his little red wagon by putting a bar across the door so chickens can get in and out and Jake The Wonder Why I Keep Him dog cannot get in!

Egg sucking hound!!!!! :tongue

Wow, BK! That's some tricky dog ya got there! Hopefully, the bar will help.

Our Titan likes to go into the barn to eat the oats and black sunflower seeds we have in there for the flock! Luckily, he hasn't taken any eggs!

OH NO! Tell Jake I said you are watching him. He needs to be sneakyer or he may be in deep trouble.

Hope the bar works. It is really hard to stop them once they start.

Okay...just to update...I haven't read everyone's posts yet but will schedule a day soon to catch up on them and get the skinny on every little thing!

Its cold here and we have a skiff of snow on the ground right now but supposed to get up to 60s this week! Crazy, I know!

I haven't even started Christmas shopping, decorating or making gifts yet and I'm feeling a little desparate right now because I'm swamped at work, its dark by the time I get home and all I want to do is snuggle in by the fire by then.

Joel, the oldest, arrived in Wyoming safely and started his new job today. I am praying that all goes well and he does well in his new home.

Eli is working on his weight and keeping the house spic and span, waiting to go to basic training in North Carolina.

Jon got a new guitar from his grandparents and I'm trying to find someone around these parts that give lessons. Meanwhile, I found a guy giving free karate lessons for his age group once a week at the local nursing home! I used to work with this guy, so its not a fishy prospect...he is a 3rd degree black belt and gives lessons each evening to all age groups. Yay! Jon is interested, which is something....can't seem to get him interested in much but girls these last few years!

Most of the chickens are fat and glossy and I can't stop looking at them! They are absolutely bursting with health and vitality and are so pretty with all their colors and patterns. I still have a few of the older ones in full, ugly, sad-looking molt and I feel so sorry for them! One of the older ones that looked so bad earlier looks so beautiful now..prettier than I've ever seen her, actually. I can't wait until they all look glossy again.

I am so surprised and pleased with the white rocks...they so outperformed all the other young ones in size and overall fluffiness! And quirky? Sometimes I look up in the yard and all the white ones are perched in an apple tree...what's up with that? Feeling the need to look down? Need to see better? Who knows?

Also, I have one white rock that wants to roost by herself in the dog's shed, on my lawn tractor! Coldest night of the year so far and who is roosting out in the open sided shed, in the cold, by herself? Can't figure some of these birds out, you know?

Eli went out and got me a Charlie Brown tree for my front porch and mounted it on a log. Cute, cute, cute! Will be decorating it later this week. He also collected me some pine boughs for my wreaths, swags and garlands...can't wait to create something pretty!

Sorry to ramble on but I've missed putting down my thoughts about this homestead and family. I've been so very happy lately and feeling such a blessing each day.

I've been absorbing the Left Behind Series of books, which I think are very appropriate at this time and I've never read them before. They are addictive and very well written...I can hardly put them down! One thing, though. It never really mentions where they get their food, no mention of how they manage without electricity (except the occasional generator...which, as everyone knows, is a very LOUD piece of equipment to be firing up while you are supposed to be in hiding!). And no mention of how the country folk are holding up as opposed to the city folks....I would think they would be a little better off in a lot of ways, really.

Anyway...that's what the Bee is up to lately and its good to be back and see how many new people have joined up! That is soooo cool! Can't wait to meet you all and get to know you!

Sounds like Quail is going to have to show new plans for her new ferret-town built from recycled materials soon! If she gets anymore of the critters she will have to build an outside ferret city with slides, big boxes of rice, walls and tubes in which to climb, etc.!
