Here's a famous mom quote: " I brought you into this world and I can take you out of it!"

Or: "You gotta sleep sometime, mister!"

Or my personal fave: "Don't let the screen door hit ya where the good Lord split ya, sonny! There's the road and you are a free, white male living in America...... best of luck!"

Its not called "mean" <sniffs primly> its called "tough love". :love

I haven't used any of those on my kiddos, but I had heard the first two several times as a kid.

As for Ernie, he's not willing to tick me off too much...usually...his reasoning is, "She does all the cooking, and I have to eat!"

I've used all of those, but only in jest! Well, I actually used the third one to make a point one evening..... :p

I don't normally have to threaten the children, as they are pretty wary of ticking off Mama....like smart BB here. If a kid is smart, they learn quickly how to avoid ticking off Mama......

A single mom's got to have something in her arsenal....especially when all your kids have to look down to see you when you are talking to them! :p

The Early Transparent apples are nearly ready for harvest, so its almost time for me to start canning somethin'! We finally got some rain and it is pretty chilly here today. I don't think nightshade veggies will do well again this year, as our nights are so frigid that I'm sleeping under my down comforter. :( Minimal bloom and few maters only on all those plants out there.....even worse? There are absolutely NO BEES in my garden. None. Nada. Haven't even seen a bumblebee.

My garden is pretty much a disaster this year and I'm trying to get beyond that in my mind. I'm afraid all my plans to squirrel away my harvest are for nought.....I will have a minimal harvest.

Squash borers got to a lot of my vines, a lot of my stuff didn't come up as I got it in late and it was dry. Some things got out of hand before I could thin, weed and tend to them. This year.......I am a total garden loser. This is the worst garden I've ever grown and I'm pretty ashamed that folks can see it from the road! :/

But there is always next year.............. ;)

A lot of us are in the same boat, Bee. I am about to give up. Thank goodness for the herbs and leafies....but I think I'd better get out there and harvest as many herbs as I can soon, as powdery mildew is encroaching in my flower beds, the veggies are next, I'm sure.

Squash borers! :somad I can not stand those evil sneaks. They kill my zucchini almost every year. I resorted to for real POISON this year. I hate to do it, but I need some squash!

It has not been a very productive year here either. Now with the cold spell (in the 50's last night) this slows down the tomatoes YET again!

Went on raccoon patrol with one of my dogs last night. Just to add a little dog scent to the patch. Sprinkled dog hair collected from brushing all around yesterday. My corn is getting REAL close now and I don't want to lose it to varmits at this point!

Still need to get fall garden in. Peas beets more beans and some late okra. Might even risk a pie pumpkin or two ... some years I can beat the frost!

I'm sorry you guys are having the same garden year I am. It is positively COLD here and has been most of the day. Only got up to 64 but the wind blew colder. Beautiful day but these cold nights (40s-50s) are something else.

You would think this would be ideal lettuce weather, but my speckled romaine is starting to bolt. :rant

Farm, last year I planted nasturtiums throughout my vines and only lost some cukes, but the rest of my stuff didn't have one vine borer. This year I didn't do it and I will probably lose all my vines. Next year? Nasturtiums and every other companion planting I can find will be in this garden!

Well, I booked the rafting trip and it sounds like it will be an adventure. The rains will make for some pretty high waves and currents, so it should be fun. Costs more than I will ever pay again....but it oughta be fun!

I really needed an adventure as I haven't been on one in quite awhile and I was getting stagnate. I haven't had an honest to goodness road trip to somewhere I've never been in so long I can't remember.

I'm going to start scrimping and saving for more road trips. I think its necessary to clear one's head and get away from your home ever once in awhile, don't you? :)

Next year? A cruise right after Christmas with all the boys. Been meaning to do it for many years and just never had the money or time. Next year we will, God willing, have both. We've never been on a family vacation.....ever.

It is funny you should mention nasturtiums. I decided to put a nasturtium in the melon patch. SO just about had a fit. Why did you do that? Because nasturtiums are supposed to repell the squash bug. "I don't like the way it looks, it looks funny", You'd think "House Beautifull" is going to come and take pictures for their cover, the way he acts sometimes. Personally I think flowers look great in a melon or squash patch. :plbb
