I helped my sisters with their goats when they lived next door and I was not as impressed with them as my sister's were!

it takes alot to impress me....when we can find a farm critter that requires no care, then I will be impressed...:gig

I've heard it said about honey bees: the only livestock that produce their own feed, clean out their own pens and reproduce without helping at the birthing process, and only require a few hours a year to maintain and harvest.

I like the sounds of that!

HA HA

I like the SOUND of it too....but Jason had 14 hives and 10 were taken over by mites and killed the bees or something......not sure, cause I heard him chat a little about it. Not a beekeeper in any way and not truly interested in it..HA HA

I think my farming brain is on overload. Honestly so much to know, learn, forget and hard work....bad combo all that mess.

If you don't mind me saying so, FC, you do seem a little overwhelmed at the present time. What with your hubby's health concerns and the farm and family, I don't see how you keep up.

Maybe it is time for a break from it all, sell most of the animals, decompress and step back~take a deep breath and re-evaluate where you want to be in life. Your life doesn't sound so simple to me....was the simple life what you were striving for? I know it sounds so extreme to just let it go...but you can always wait for your second wind and try again at a later date, with a fresh mind and perspective. You sound so very frazzled! I wish I lived nearby and could help you with your farm work. :)

yea I do have that frazzled feeling....kinda like I don't know which way to go. try to add to the farm and improve it more, or time to just start to kick back and let alot of it go....

funny but I don't know which way to swing. cause I feel like if I give up what I have, I will never regain it and I worked so hard to get here.....hmm...but is here where I want to be? LOL-LOL

I love the simple life...where the heck is it?
HA HA

I always say I am a work in progress....and I know I head toward something and give it my all...now to decide which way to head.

Maybe I will go stand on a street corner in Charlotte with a big mug that says --need a year's vacation in Hawaii... please donate.

My best advice? And this may sound like an oversimplification....pray!

I came to a cross-roads like that about 3 years ago and knew I wasn't happy doing what I was doing and living where I was living. To everyone's surprise, I sold nearly everything I owned~house and all my collected antiques~and moved to a completely different area and away from the place where I was raised. It wasn't easy to do and it was a little rough at first, but I felt God was leading me.

Why? Because I finally got out of the way and let him do so! :p

Being a single mother shapes one into a person who is used to having control....HAS to take control of all situations that arise. It was very hard for me to realize that what I thought was control and independence was akin to me grabbing the steering wheel while God was trying to drive! Yep! Made for some awful car wrecks and disasters...both emotional and financial.

One day, as I was scouting for jobs in this area, far from my own home, I had come to my wits end about what to do with my life...our lives...to get to a place of peace and happiness. I was driving down a mountain and a beautiful vista opened before me and it hit me.....I started crying and shouted at God, "YOU do it, because I just give up! I've done everything I thought you wanted and it didn't work, so YOU try for me, 'cause I'm all out of ideas!"

A feeling so warm and lovely came over me that I had to pull over and just sit there. I cried and laughed at the same time! I would have never believed it unless I had not lived it myself....but all the aspects of my life lined up like dominoes and fell over into each other one by one.

I got a job that day at a place that had told me a couple of days previously that they only had part-time positions~a full time one came open that day(after two months without), I got a place to live that day(I had been trying for 2 months by phone to find a place to rent), and the place to live was so very lovely it took my breath away! All in this area far from my home.

One prayer....after years of crying, begging, pleading for help for my life. I just hadn't said the right words, I believe. I KNOW I hadn't. I was strong and independent and wanted to control my direction....what a laugh!!!

If you haven't already, it would be worth a shot to let God decide what comes next....and then just let Him work the miracles! :)

Sometimes all you need is to take the pressure off of yourself.

Don't get me wrong. The prayer is ultimately the best answer. While God is doing his job, you need to do yours. Occasionally - just occasionally - give yourself a break. You don't ALWAYS have to get you to do list done. Set some priorities. Let somethings slide for a while. I know animals and people have to eat and some chores cannot wait, but if you are like me, you probably have a to do list a mile long. For a couple of days each week make it be only half a mile! :D

Give yourself a little credit for all the great things that you do around there. De-frazzle.

Then ... when you are more rested, take a look. You "(one of) the farmers of America" are a hero. You probably won't scale back, that is just not your style, but you may be able to make your life a little easier with some rested planning!

Well....never really thought of it as a testimony...I guess it is. It just happened and things kept continuing to happen that spring that left my mother and I shaking our heads in wonder! You would think ol' hard head would have learned from this experience, huh?

Nope! Still trying to wrest the control away from the Lord until I hit my head against the windshield of life! Everytime I promise myself to stop, but how does one take a lifetime of stubborn and curb it?

Day by day and prayer by prayer, that's how! Still praying when I remember that its the shortest route to the only road available, because God will take you there regardless! Its just a matter of how many times you want to fall down and take a fit because you want to go your own way! :p

FC, you deserve to let someone else drive for awhile....just sit in the back seat and watch the pretty scenery unfold!
