Bee....I enjoyed hearing about your visitor...too funny. People really are dumb sometimes aren't they?

Decorating for Christmas already? Too early for me yet. I begin my official Holiday season on Thanksgiving morning...I put on Christmas music and start pulling out a Christmas decorations while my turkey is cooking. T-day is my favorite day of the year! I was in a store last week and they were playing Christmas songs! Eeek :ep

Ahhh....I love this time of year :)

They had Santa in a drugstore last week! :p Since I don't get too many pretty, girly things in my life, I like to extend the time frame of existing decorations.

It's the only time of year when I can really express myself to the neighborhood with something other than weird gardening practices and a free ranging zoo!

I hear ya there Bee.Even tho we live pretty far from town....I LOVE to decorate for the Christmas season. We have about 2 acres in the front of the house, and when all is said and done...its lit up like NYC. Of course....we dont turn them on for long....the breeze from the electric meter would blow you away!
This year I have animals in the barn...so...they will get deco as well. Ohhhh, how I love this season!! :D

I don't use many lights in my decorating...usually just a few strands of small white lights. This year I will have a star as well.

Most of my decorating is live boughs of greenery, berries and other interesting stuff from the wilds accented with touches of color or flair. Last year I filled a basket with some pretty red sumac berries that were just the right color of wine red! Loved that look!

This year I found some very pretty crystal teardrops that were clear and the snazzy red I am going with this year. Also found some very graceful deer ornaments of the same red. Found a strand of lights that had tiny stars as the lights and I found some snazzy red star ornaments as well.

I purchased some beeswax candles earlier in the year and will find some great votive holders for these. A whole role of plaid gingham wired ribbon and a great table cloth.

Need to make or find some great potpourri. Will gather and scent some pine cones. The whole house must be redolent of pine, spice and the intoxicating smell of Christmas! :love

Soft lighting and soft throws. Candy dishes with great treats for the guests.

Most of the things I found were at Dollar General! :D

I like decorating for christmas as well. Most of the decor is just as suitable for a pagan holiday. But since I am surrounded by so called christians (they are mostly christian at christmas, they don't go to church or anything) I don't mind decorating for all of us. It is the spirit of the season, I just wish it would last all year.

The folks have many pine trees on the property, so I started to collect some pine cones. There appears to be a nice variety. I told mom I would make them a wreath or two while I am here.
In Germany you celebrate Advent and a wreath is required for this. I will use some red berries and pinecones to decorate the wreaths. My father loves to decorate the whole house. It is way in the boondocks, but it looks so lovely when you drive up to the house and see the outside trees lit up and the lights in the window.

I found some solar lights in a catalog last year and bought some for ourselves. They worked very well all year, I left them on our fence, because they help us and visitors find the driveway at night. I plan on getting more for myself and may get some as gifts as well.

I love seeing the lights when I drive up to a house also....especially out in the country! I guess if one left them up all year round it wouldn't be as pretty or as special.

I love winter time for that very reason....the houses seem so cozy and protected at night. Lights shining from the windows on to a blanket of snow , smoke spiraling from the chimney and folks laughing and talking inside.

I think this is the best part of my day in the winter....driving up to that warmly lit house and walking into the warm house. Finally safe! :)

So neat to hear how you decorate! This year I won't be doing it, as I won't be home long enough :( But I'm sure I'll take the infamous drives through the country to gander at all the houses and their decor.

I'll try to post a pic of the house when I'm done, so you can get into the Christmas spirit! I hated it when I was too busy to decorate in years past. It always felt like I was missing something or had forgotten something vital.

Funny how that is, 'cause Dad wouldn't let us decorate for Christmas since I was little, around 7 or 8. He went through a religious phase and abdicated from all the Christmas hoopla, claiming it was all about Satan-Claus and pagan tree worship....I think this was so he wouldn't have to buy a lot of presents.

Maybe this is why I love to do Christmas....I wanted my boys to feel that magic!

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!

I CAN'T STAND IT!!

You're decorating for CHRISTMAS??? And we've not had Thanksgiving yet?!

THANKSGIVING IS NOT A SPEED BUMP TO CHRISTMAS!!

:p  :hugs

Seriously, though, I hate that Thanksgiving seems to be overlooked more and more each year. People go all out for Halloween...and then it's straight to Christmas! :hit

I really miss all the family get togethers we had for Thanksgiving when I was a kid. Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday.
