My boss just bought one for her daughter for Christmas.....drove all the way to Georgia to get it! Its awful darn cute but it will be bigger. Before long people will have bred every type of animal into a "miniature".....be miniature elephants for the small homesteader soon! :p

The wean babies sound like the best way to go. Good thing we have some real experienced folks around here to listen to. Good job FC!

I think you will be amazed at your energy level with the new job as well. We all know how much stress your old job had, even if it does not seem so bad right now. After you start the new job you will be able to judge the stress you have been under. I know that was the way for me. I just kept on at the Alternative school thinking I was handling it - now at the new job, wow. I look back and can see the toll it took on me.

Glad to hear things are looking up... just remember to say thanks while you ARE looking up!

Thanks everyone, for your support!! You guys are the best cheering section I have! :)

FF, I always remember to give thanks! I came bouncing into my "old" office the other day all enthused about the new job and everything else that was going great in my life and someone asked me how I managed to stay happy all the time. I started telling her about all the wonderful things going on in my life now and how I never had it easy, so I was riding this "high" for all its worth!!! :D She said she would like to know my secret for having everything turn out right, as she felt like nothing good happened for her.

I lifted up my pants legs and showed her my knees and said, "Here's the secret to my success!" She sort of looked at me strangely and I could see the wheels turning..... :p Then the puzzled look cleared when I said, "Praying....thats all it takes." She laughed and said she prays all the time and nothing works out for her!

I told her I used to be the same way and I would pray and cry and pray and cry some more....and feel hurt that God never seemed to give me what I needed so badly. THEN, one day, God finally showed me the light.....40 years old and I finally found out what I was doing wrong! :p I was praying wrong, even though He told us exactly how to pray, in the Bible. I finally finished my prayer with "......Your will, not mine, be done."

Ever since then, things have been pretty darn good! And then I told her about the other type of praying that I do constantly....."Thank you, God,for the beautiful day, my children, my job, my car working well, for a beautiful sight, or a kind stranger.....I thank Him all the time, every time I think of it and especially before I go to bed each night.

She got real quiet when I told her that and I suppose she might be thinking about things in a new light....I know it took ME long enough to get it right, so why not a 63 yr. old woman?

:thumbsup :)

My boy, Eli, made the best potato soup I've ever tasted yesterday!!! No leftovers there, I can tell you!! He added some canned deer meat to the pot when it was done cooking and let that simmer awhile.....we fought for the last drop!!! :drool He had made homemade wheat bread the day before, and I swear to you that it was far superior to my own bread~using the same recipe!!

He's learning....and will surprise his wife one day with his hidden skills!

I'm glad that I taught them, albeit with some reluctance on their part, to cook, clean and do laundry...and even how to make their own laundry soap. It should make for some interesting times when they are married!!! I'm hoping their wives will be pleasantly surprised and write me a little "thank you" note!

Praying is so important. I know I don't always pray the way I should, but I always give thanks. Night before last we heard coyotes in our field, RIGHT behind my chicken houses! I prayed protection for my flock.

Next morning all my chickerdoodles were there except for one little pheonix chick, that looks like she fell right off the roost and died! I wonder if it was from fright or what??

Anyway, Last night as I shut them in I prayed for God to lead those coyotes somewhere else. This morning when we woke up DH said he hadn't heard a single coyote all night. I said, "Of course not! I prayed for God to lead them somewhere else."

I don't always remember to say "your will be done" but I feel it. If that makes sense. I pray a lot over my chickens, I know that sounds crazy, but that's a real source of livlihood and income for us right now, so I pray. I remind God how important they are to us for survivial and income, and then I ask God to help us through if we lose them. I know it's all in His time, His plan, His will, I just don't always remember to say it.

This has been our first winter with wintering livestock and so far, God has been sooo good to us and protected us and our livestock. I've only had 2 or 3 losses through this cold spell. Even my roosters with the frozen feet seem to be OK, and I prayed some serious prayers for them!

And to top that off, God gave my husband the idea to let me start up the incubators! :D Yes, I'll give God credit for that, too, because I wasn't sure how I was going to bring up wanting to fire them up to DH, but God made the way for me!

Sorry for hijacking, Bee, I just get soooo excited when God's is in control. Things are so much better when He's the head of things, even if it's right down to being our Farm Manager! Even if He says No, we survive!

:thumbsup It doesn't hurt guys to learn cooking and cleaning. I'm sure you have learned many things that are traditionally mens job. You will have piece of mind knowing that they can take care of themselves when they are ready to head out into the world on their own.

BYW, You're making me hungry! :)
