I heard a pretty great little definition not so long ago. It was the true definition of a "survivalist".

SURVIVALIST: "A true survivalist is a person who has emergency rations for all of his pets - And considers all of his pets emergency rations!":p
:yuckyuck

But true! I mean....my poms are not so big...but would roast up nicely...if it was me or them. I just hope I NEVER get to that.

Please ... SOMEONE ... explain to me why they were eating at a Mc Donalds?
:hu Maybe they bought the car used and the previous owner was vegan? :hu
My dd had a friend in high school who was raised vegan. Her parents were vegan and didn't drink coffee. So my dd's friend stopped at McD's every morning for coffee before going to school.

My guess - the car belonged to the driver's parents. :gig

Too funny! The last time we ate a whole chicken my son asked me "Mommy, it's not one of OUR chickens, is it?" I had to reassure him that we weren't eating anything we had named

I seem to remember seeing Carlos Mencia do a bit about vegetarians and cows. It seemed to go something like this:

I'm so sick of vegetarians telling me that eating animals is wrong. Look at cows, they produce methane gas which contributes to global warming. What helps clean the air.....plants. I am eating the problem and they are eating the solution!

It was a lot funnier when he said it but it does make you think, doesn't it? :D

Haha...it really does make you think...I can't wait to run into a vegetarian to tell that to!

I have yet to meet a vegetarian or even a vegan who does not use some form of animal product. My favorite is the rider who uses leather tack, since she does not like the synthetic saddles. Or the vegan with the leather shoes, since synthetics make her feet sweat.

I am in admiration of people who stick up for their values, whether I agree with them or not, but don't look down at me while being a hypocrite!! Yeesh! :somad

My parents are vegans, but not because they are animal lovers...they do it for health reasons only. Its amazing the results they've had with it!

What I don't get is that these folks(the gals in my office) are so quick to comment or jump on someone for eating their animals. I can imagine if it were all reversed and I were to make comments about them wasting money feeding mere pets when the money could be given to hungry people somewhere....or even to their own bills! I think that is what bothers me the most about it.....they feel so free to make careless and thoughtless comments but would bust a vein if I were to do the same. :hu

I, myself, feel nothing but disgust for people who place animals above humans in their lives, collect more animals than they could ever need for companionship or food, give a good home to an animal but would never dream of doing the same for a child, or give money to an animal shelter before they would give it to some good cause for children.....but do I say that to these people?

Nope. Why? Because I really don't care enough to actually say it to them. Its rude. Its uncouth to make unsolicited, snap comments aloud on someone's lifestyle choice....the reasons are countless. As long as their particular idiosyncrasies don't affect my life directly they can dance naked under the full moon while sacrificing all their worldly goods to their animals....it makes no difference to me and I don't react, other than a shake of the head or the bad taste in the mouth. :hu

(Before anyone gets all brody on here: If the previous paragraph should offend anyone on here who does these things....this was given as an example and not as something directed towards you or anyone you know. Just an example of how I feels to be attacked openly because of how I choose to live my life. )

I'm not doing ritual animal sacrifices, nor am I pulling the toenails off puppies here....just growing animals for a particular purpose, nothing more or less than that. They get good food and plenty of it, clean water and long days of freedom in a stress-free environment until they fulfill their purpose on this Earth. That we should all be so lucky! ;) :)

Bee, I have to say I agree with you. Altho I do have 3 pom's...who are really..."worthless" unless barking at everything that moves outside counts. However....every "farm animal" we have is for a purpose. Be it meat, eggs, or milk...or wool. Once they can no longer provide for me...they are in the freezer. I SURE cant afford to have a "pet" pig, or cow...or sheep! When the hens quit laying, in the freezer they go. Xtra roosters, yummy!
I know some people have "pet" farm animals...and well, if thats what makes thier rocker rock...good for them....its just not for me.

It also comes down to good ol' common sense. In tough economical times, is it wise to increase your "dependents" by adding on more and more pets? When you are scrambling for money to pay your bills and discuss this openly in the office~and then talk lovingly about your 13 cats and 5 dogs? C'mon! Pet food is very expensive! I feel bad buying enough for 2 dogs, even if they are working dogs! :p

When you are complaining that you can't afford the health insurance at work for you and your family and in the same breath describe the $300 vet visit for all the pet's check-ups?

These are the inconsistencies that I cannot understand in today's world. Priorities are seriously askew!

My boss is constantly maneuvering for more and more pay, but owns 5 registered horses, 6 dogs, 7 cats, a deer, several rats, numerous birds, a mini potbellied pig that she drove all the way to Georgia to get for $400. Not to mention a very large house, four new cars and trucks, stock trailers, etc., etc. Why would anyone put this burden on themselves and their family for anything, let alone for animals? And then have to scramble around and become cut-throat to get enough money to support this?

And the sad part? This is one of the most unhappy and hate-filled families I've ever seen! Love for animals but no love for each other....is this what the world is coming to?

I'm not saying you can't love people and animals...but I see less and less love for our fellow man and more and more for animals and its world-wide. :(
