 Quail! Are you going to get into sheep??? Wouldn't that be wonderful? We could do sheep together and compare notes....I think a couple of others on here are getting some for the first time too. We could start a sheep thread and exchange ideas and troubleshoot health issues.

I can barely wait to have lambs of my own next year! After I get my flock to 4 ewes, I may breed back to a Suffolk or Hampshire ram for the increase meat production and sell all offspring. And then, when I need replacement stock, I can breed back to the St. Croix ram my breeder has.

Next spring I expect to have a whole yard full of lambs and piglets! I will be breeding for April birthings. All those babies dancing on the new, green grass!!! :weee :bun :ya

One chick got out of the nest and died from exposure. And he was my most lively and hardy one! :( That dang hen is still sitting on those other eggs or I think she would have minded her chick. I candled them and could see nothing but darkness....how in the world would you see movement with a chick packed so tightly into a dark shelled egg? If I don't see pips by tomorrow, I'm cracking one!!! :somad

I have an idea for my egg shells and extra eggs. The eggs shells I am saving for putting in the holes where I will plant my tomato plants. Extra calcium...good.

The eggs will be mixed with laying mash and other feeds and with the dog's food for extra protein. We can't keep up with the excess and I haven't had time to do any marketing, I've given away tons of eggs. Time to keep that overflow for the farmstead....it will go back into the profit making machine.

Bee, I tripped over my own big foot yesterday and spilled a dozen eggs all right out onto the counter. Crack crack crack!!!! So I opened them mall up gave them a scramble and stuck them in the freezer. Could you do something along those lines to save some eggs?

Bee, scramble up some of those extra eggs and feed them back to your chickens, especially your mama with the chicks!! My chickens love scrambled eggs!! :D

Bake those egg shells for about 15-20 minutes or completely dry them in the sun, and crunch them up into the scrambled eggs for your chickerdoodles...they'll love you for it!!

I often scramble up extra eggs with a bit of salt - pour them into large ice cube trays until frozen and then store in a Ziplock for later baking. They keep a year or so and 1 large cube is equal to 1 egg in a recipe!

Now THAT is a neat idea!

"Honey, take some eggs out to thaw for breakfast, please." I can see his face now....
I have got to try that! I give all the shells back to the chickens currently, but I am going to try them with the tomatoes.

OMG!! That is one of my biggest fears! I had to meet up with a lady last Saturday night and bring her 2 dozen eggs that she paid $25 for! I was so nervous that I was going to drop them and I had no extras to give her if that happened!!

I dropped one of my eggs once and just crumbled up the shell really well with the egg and popped it in the microwave for 1 minute and then fed it to the chickens. Talk about happy campers! Nothing left.
