I'm starting to feel that old gardening urge...getting excited about what to plant, where to plant it, how to plant it, etc. Anyone else getting that gardening itch? :D I've always felt that I was closer to God in my garden~I love that I can plant a seed, watch it grow, tend to it lovingly and reap food(actual FOOD) from it! What a concept!

Sometimes I just gaze at my garden and smile way deep in my heart at the lush growth, the flowers nodding in the wind and the bustling bees gathering pollen before the sun goes down. I'm going to intersperse many annual flowers in the garden this year and use companion planting as often as I can.

I'm also tossing around an idea of using my Dad's old truck's bed for a raised bed situation...wondering if it would be worth it to load it down with leaves, mulching, soil, etc. just to see how good things grow there. :)

Have some cute pics of the new roo, Rudy, a young WR, meeting the CX chicks for the first time. He is so sweet to the chicks and will hold his head down real still and let them peck his wattles, his eyes and his comb. I think he feels they are grooming him....it was a good thing to open up their brooder so they could be together. He immediately started to cluck and show them "food" on the ground...and they responded! Guess they just got a new big brother... :D

Great pictures Bee! I need a roo like that!

Did you decide to experiment with the truck bed? That seems like an interesting idea (up here, old truck beds are turned into trailers - you see them everywhere). Would love to see pictures of it if you decide to give it a whirl :)

Not yet! :D I'll definitely take pics if I use that truck bed for anything SS...should make for good redneck fun! :D

Best part about this roo? He was FREE. I like free. :D He's much more vocal than my previous roos...we'll see if that changes a little when he gets some hens and a true flock of his own.

He sure is! I wish I could take credit for him, but he was a gift....a really sweet one. This bird traveled halfway across the state in a cat carrier and didn't make a peep. My mother's neighbor brought him to her~really nice folks who live in the southern part of the state. Salt of the earth, for sure.

When I checked them all before bedtime, Rudy was on the roost, the chicks were bedded down except for a few stragglers. When I herded them into the bedded area with their mates, Rudy clucked at me...you know that cluck~that "stop bothering my hens!" cluck, half alarm and half question. I think that's just sweet! :D
