Ooooo how about a nice hot peach cobbler? I got a great recipe.....a big ol' dollop of fresh whipped cream :woot

Bee....most of us know how deep your faith runs and what a big and giving heart you have. You have touched many of us in a positive way....don't let a few critical words ruffle your feathers :hugs

Could I just have a piece of everything please? If there is some chocolate pecan, I will definitely have some of that.

:frow Hey, everyone! Having pie without me?? :drool

Just stopped in to tell you something funny....I've had a broody that's been sitting on eggs for about a month and a half. We took the first batch~soooooo rotten~ and gave her a fresh bunch for a little while.

Yesterday I saw some Cornish Cross chicks at TSC....yep, you guessed it...I bought some! 20 to be exact. Late last night we took her eggs and replaced them with chicks. This morning we looked in on her to find her very content with many little yellow heads poking out from between her feathers!

This evening I checked again and the chicks are under her, on top of her, running around and eating....I could have sworn that ol' hen gave me a dirty look!!

No matter how many times I see a hen with chicks, it always makes my heart dance for joy....it never gets old to me!

Anyway...this is how my meaty chicks are going to be brooded....by a mom. She is a White Rock, so at least the babies will sort of look like her....for awhile... :gig

That's the best way to hatch chicks IMO
And I can never get enough of watching them. It's amazing how those chicks manage to get under mom and be totally hidden from view. ..... and then one sneaks a peak from under mom's wing....all you see is its little head.... can we say cuuute

Hola Bee! :frow

I finally get you, live and in person! I feel like we have become like two ships passing in the night. I miss you all the time.

Anyway, I feel the same way about mama chickens and chicks. It just melts my heart. We have one now sitting on eggs due to hatch ou this Friday.

We never kept a rooster before, so this is my first time NOT having to do "operation chick swap" in the middle of the night. I never had a chicken hatch her own eggs, so I'm super excited and nervous.

Will you be posting any pics of the new mama? :D

I'll try...wretched dial-up downloading, ya know.... I am taking her pic in the morning with all those little yellow heads peeking.

Hey, Sally! So nice to finally talk to you....very glad you have a broody! It's soooooo exciting to wait for babies! I miss you so much also....I miss so many of you gals! Feels so lonely to not get to be on here as much and see what is happening in your lives.

I was going to wait and see if my broody hatched this second batch but I could see that she had a greater purpose awaiting her....to brood my meaties! :p

What breed of hen is your broody? How many eggs under her? What is her proposed hatch date? Isn't life grand??? :weee

She is a little under a year old, first-time-mom Buff O. Her eggs are from a Ameraucana roo mixed with a few RIR, Black A, and her eggs....so all EEs from good egg layers.

She is sitting on 15 of 'em!

I wish I had thought of having her raise meaties (or as OFG politely calls 'em, "dinner chickens" :p ) but I got all in a panic when she went broody and didn't think things through too well. (I was thinking "more egg layers", rather than "more roasting birds".)

That is a fantastic idea by the way. I'll be more prepared next time!
