If someone want to come and collect her (and her friend), I've got a gal, Xanthe (Faverolle) who'll go broody. EVERY time I forget to collect the eggs for a day or two, she's the one setting on them. I'm downsizing and having a hard time deciding who goes, maybe ya'll can help. I have: Addie (dominique) that has a lump on her back that doesn't seem to impair her life at all (tumor?); Balari (Delaware) my favorite and she ain't leavin'; Mille (EE) I just think green eggs are cool and we're painting the kitchen to match one of her eggs; Lacey (Andalusian) she is definitely on my get rid of list, she won't let anyone touch her and I never really bonded with her; and last but not least, Xanthe.

The humpback hen may just be slightly deformed. Over the years of butchering chickens I occasionally clean one that is humpbacked. I think they just develop a bit odd sometimes if the incubation temperature is not consistent. Curly toes can also result from this.

I wouldn't use her as a breeder but other than that she should be OK, if this is the problem.

Had a girl's day out with a new friend...I hope? I've known her for over a year now and we really like to be together but had never spent any real time together....it was really wonderful!

She took me to her mother's house which was so spectacular that words cannot describe it!!!! Picture Southern Living crossed with Home and Gardens and throw in a splash of Country Woman. This house was old, beautiful and comfortable..furnished tastefully and artistically. Hidden balconies, a rooftop retreat, sunrooms, antiques galore, artwork old and beautiful. The porch alone was bigger than some houses...make of brick and stone and old wood columns. Cats lounged in every nook...almost like they were placed there for effect!

The grounds were enormous and landscaped artfully wild with every species of shrub, tree, flower....I cannot even imagine how many kinds. Ponds, little garden houses and private nooks, benches and hides all over. Two huge groves of bamboo and several rustic cabins that are rentals scattered on the property.

Every step was a feast for the eyes as all the trees are in bloom, blossoms bright and muted, herbs and ferns, interestingly twisted trees and crooked, old garden gates, sculptures made of wood and stone, cairns, driftwood, and serenity gardens. I could barely take it all in! It took them 28 years to complete this place and it shows. It was just so casually unaffected...almost as if everything just grew there on it's own...even the rustic sculptures her husband had formed.

Her mother was gracious and genteel, gave me a shamrock and rosemary to take home with promises of more flowers and herbs when she thins out her beds. Lovely lady!

Then we went to her sister's house and it was a grand old Victorian as well with spectacular views and HUGE trees....tire swings too.

The conversation was warm and fun, the food was great (we went to a Mexican place..it was great!) and I felt uplifted by the day.

Great day! :)

Bee, that sounds amazing and surely is rejuvenating. That is the kind of place that is food for my soul.

If you are awake tonight and your skies are clear...do yourself a favor, step outside and look UP! Billions of stars and every constellation are visible and bright!

I could look at it for hours...it is simply mesmerizing! :)

Hey Bee guess what we did last weekend? We laid on the car hood in the middle of the Kansas Flint Hill prairie and looked at the STARS!

:weee

I miss them here in town. We always lay there talking about how much we miss the stars at home. Maybe someday I'll get to move out where it gets dark.

You keep looking up for me will you Bee?

Oh, Farm! I'm so glad you went stargazing! It refreshes the soul, doesn't it? Can you imagine seafaring men and the star shows they got to witness?

I will definitely be looking up...and to the east ;) ...as often as I can! It's funny....but it never gets old to me. Each time I'm just as thrilled and in awe of the vastness of the sky and how very beautiful the design!

My hubby knows a BUNCH of the constellations and a lot of the stories that go along with them. We always have such a good time bonding when under the stars! :love

What are these "stars" you speak of? :p In spite of being outside of town, we have streetlights. That = no stargazing. I miss that and I miss the quiet of the country. Oh that silence would be so wonderful to have.

Bee, so glad you were blessed with a lovely day. Places like that, that have been so lovingly and perfectly built are refreshing.
