What is the best affordable and dependable bread maker?
Where did you get it?
I had one years ago, but it stopped working after 4 uses.

I have a Panasonic sd-yd250 model for over a year and it always gives me a consistent good loaf as far as breadmakers go. It is a good medium price range breadmaker. Check out different models for the ratings on Amazon and you will get a good idea of quality. I really wanted the Zojirushi but went with the Panasonic after reading comments.
Yes, I can make a good loaf from scratch but it is nice to throw the ingredients in the breadmaker and smell it baking for hours also :D

I have two bread makers that I only set on the dough setting then pull my dough out and either make rolls out of it or just bake it in my loaf pan. Not too sure without looking what kind they are but I've been using the one for years and the other for just a few months. They are both older models.

Ok, one is a Chef Mate and the other is Regal. I have had great success with them. :)

Welcome RicknLauraplus8....do you really have 8 kiddos?
Absolutely! We'd love one or two more too.

Rick and I were married just two months ago. He has 4 boys that live here all the time, and I have 4 children (two adopted boys and 1 adopted girl and my bio daughter). We have a house full and love it! :D

Thanks to all for bread maker info.

Suffcientforme, I took your advice and scoured the net reading reviews.
It was a difficult decision, but I wanted the 2 paddles & the horizontal loaf. I chose the Zojirushi.
Hopefully, I will have this thing forever like my Kitchenaid mixer. I'll be waiting impatiently for it to be delivered!!

Let us know how it works out for you, at least the price has come down on the Zojirushi over the last year. I think it was around 229.00 last year when I was looking.

Hm, both my mother and I have used bread machines for many many years (arthritic wrists/hands) and never had one die til it definitely no longer owed us anything. My current one is a Black&Decker, I have no recollection what the other models have been (I had one prior one, my mother had 2 or 3 over the years, this is like 20-30 years we're talking here) but they were not anything special or exotic. (e.t.a - my current B&D cost something like $89, not on sale, and that's in Canada where prices are higher. I'm quite satisfied with it)

something that died after just 4 uses I'd be taking it up with the seller or manufacturer! that's not normal at all, unless ya do something like wash the pan underwater so that water gets into the moving parts or something, which I assume you did not.

Good luck, have fun,

Pat
