I agree with you, FC. Personally, I try to get the cereals that have lots of fiber and very little sugar. But, in general, my kids eat cereal only about once per week and sometimes we forget about cereal for weeks on end. I just love other breakfast food too much and cereal doesn't give me a chance to make all those other foods :)

Hi, I'm new to the forum, but I thought I would just jump right in.
One of my favs is smoothies.
I freeze milk in ice trays then dump the milk cubes in freezer storage containers. Goats milk is the best!
With that I can make yummy smoothies or "blizzards" ice cream treats anytime.
Just pop some cubes in your blender add anything you like:
Breakfast
flax seed oil or I like to grind flax seed very fine in a coffee grinder
raw egg( fresh eggs are not a problem raw if they are not cracked)
fruit
stevia or honey or whatever you like to sweeten with
Add milk enough to blend...Voila and yum and quick
TREATS
cubes, fruit or vanilla or chocolate(get the idea)
chosen sweetner
milk to blend
HEAVEN ANYTIME ;)

Texgran, I use egg cremes* as a quick breakfast
(raw egg smoothie)

I like chocolate made with unsweetened coco, almond milk, some coconut milk, duck eggs, and a splash of sugar-free carmel syrup.

Welcome Tex! We make our smoothies with frozen (hand picked ) fruit, yogurt, and a handful of home ground flaxseed. According to my kids-- you hafta put a whole banana in it--for sweetness. As with alot of foods, though this seems to be a seasonal breakfast--at least for ds. He only likes them really in the summer, but he will mix one up for a snack occasionally throughout the winter.

Wife--I'm gonna try that quiche. We all like quiche, but dd can only eat so much of it or she feels sick. Ds does NOT like veggies of any sort in with his eggs. Ham and cheese are good--bacon is better.

Oh--i am sooo busy today--this is the frst time I've sat down all day. So now--back at 'er.

Sounds like you girls have it going on.
I have a grandson that is being raised sooo commercialy. He can't wait to get here so he can have fresh milk and eggs and an "ice cream" treat. At one point a few years ago, when he was about 4, we had sold all our dairy animals. We had no fresh milk. We were out doing chores and I saw him in with the Jacob sheep. When asked what he was doing he told me he was going to catch one so I could milk it and then we would have fresh milk. Gotta love those babies.
Hope I don't get in trouble for getting off thread.

That is key definitely...using it in moderation and for when you surely need something fast.....life is fast paced, a bowl of cereal sometimes just is needed! LOL

Yea I am switching Nicole over to the better cereals. She loves the Honey Nut Cheerios as a snack. Just dry in a bowl and eats them that way.

Best I can do is just get the best I can with some other stuff included....like Tony ain't ever giving up those stupid Cocoa Puffs..HA HA...but at least he is mixing them in with the good things so cuts down his consumption.

Me, personally, I hate cereal. Never eat it! I think I am predjudice about what THEY eat..HA HA HA...but they like it so I try to make it good for them.

If it is made of wheat, rice, corn or oats, even without added sugar, it is still basically sugar.

1 oz Corn Flakes
106 calories
24.3g carbohydrates

1 oz Frosted Flakes
104 calories
25.6g carbohydrates

1 oz bran flakes
91 calories
22g carbohydrates

For every 50g of carbohydrates you eat is the equivalent of eating 1/4 cup of table sugar. It isn't just sugar you need to watch out for, it is total carbohydrate count.

Wifezilla, I know that is what you believe. Not everyone does. I respectfully want to point out that some would like to admit to eating carbs without any comment. I personally don't believe in cutting out any entire food group, but I do try to get my food as whole as possible.

The mistake most people make is saying "I am not eating sugar" when in fact they are eating LOTS of sugar but don't know it. The fact that carbs break down in your digestive tract in to glucose isn't just a belief of mine. That is fact. What you choose to do with that fact is entirely up to you.

A few carbs aren't going to kill you. Massive amounts of carbs at every meal sets you up for weight gain, high blood pressure, obesity and heart disease. Not only is that my belief, that is my personal experience.

You can eat carbs until they shoot out your eyeballs if you like, just don't think that because you left out sugar you aren't getting sugar. It's simple biology what happens to flour, rice, corn, etc... once it is digested. It converts to glucose. I fail to see how pointing this out is a problem.
