I have a glass top stove - not my choice; it was here when we bought the house. I also use my cast iron on it, with so far no problems. I am careful with it, and perhaps the surface soesn't look quite as nice as it did, but thats OK with me. I dislike the glass top, but our only other option would be a regular electric stove, and I think I might dislike that more. Getting gas out here would be problematic. But I like my cast iron better than the glass top, so I continue to use my pans.

I finally chipped my ceramic stove but good by using my cast iron griddle. Something spilled and it fused to the stove, and I chipped it wrestling the pan off the stove. So if this happens, be sure to soak it and not force it.

The problem is that you are supposed to only use flat bottomed pans on the flat stove top, and griddles are not flat on the bottom.

For me, it was my excuse to finally switch to gas, though. What a difference. It is awesome!

I vote cast iron! For the money it cannot be beat. We have a glass top range so DW went and bought all stainless pots and pans not cheap. Most of them have been replaced already. Cast iron distributes heat better and will last several lifetimes. I'm switching back, glass top range or not.

I use both and love both plus one. I have a really nice BIG heavy stainless steel fryer with a great fitting lid, several different sizes in cast iron including a really big one but I don't have a decent lid for it. Plus, I have an old Guardian Ware aluminum chicken fryer pan with the original glass lid. I love the way my chicken comes out of that old Guardian Ware. I got a new enamel coated cast iron cook pot for Christmas. I love it. Now that I have used it I am in the process of coveting one of the fry pans. I would really hate to have to chose just one since I love all three for different reasons. But if I absolutely had to choose it would probably be the cast iron.

I went to a big antique store and found a big(!) Wagner. YEA! I also found a no named cast iron pot and a really nice old cast iron muffin pan. I can't wait to use them.

I already have a tortilla pan, a griddle, a medium fry pan and a corn bread pan~the kind that seperates your corn bread into wedges. (I don't use the corn bread pan very much though.) Now my set is complete.

Well, seeing how you already got cast iron, al I can say is yay! My vote would have been for one too. I have 4 fry pans, all different sizes. I think my biggest one is 14" It has a long handle on the one end, and a place to grab on the other side of it. I need two hands to heave it around, but we use it for most everything. The next most used oneis the two egg fry pan. Wanted a dutch oven for Christmas, but never got it. Oh well, (got a meat slicer though :p)

Cast Iron!!
My oldest daughter gave me her stainless steel cookware set - glass lids with steam holes inluded. I cannot cook anything in the frying pan!
I have to use my cast iron skillet!
