You could bake with it though, right? I as well have a flat top but I have found recipes for baking and grilling-not sure how well they work.

i know i'd never want one of those since it would be way too easy for how i cook out of habit to not end up scratching the surface. i did see in passing that the cast iron pans i have say they're ok for flat top surface but they do say to be careful to make sure it is all smooth before using. IMO i'd just make a mess of it within a few short moments and then there is the issue of dropping things out of the microwave above it that Mom has at times done and i could see that being a bad thing for any glass surface below.

I’m so sad I can’t use cast iron because I have a flat top stove.
Oops - nobody told me I wasn't supposed to use cast iron on mine. I use CI and I use the canner too. :hide
My canner isn't one of those double-deckers so it's not too heavy. I almost hope mine would break - I need a good reason to replace it, lol.
