This is true!!

At least the chickens were smart enough to actually go in to the coop tonight!! They usually roost in the run every night, no matter the weather. I know they were not enjoying the wind at all!

I hated the wind when we were in AZ! We had one really windy day and two days later my schnauzer, Buddy got sick. It ended up being Valley Fever and he is just getting over it now--his first symptoms were in Dec '10. It is a fungus and they said he got it from blowing dust. The doc also said that most people who live out there for two years or more test positive. So stay out of the wind Michael!!!! So much for comic relief, huh?

Hey Snapshot! I'm so happy that Buddy is better, but yikes!, over a year to recover?! What were his symptoms? I'm sure that if the fungus is out here, we and the dog have been exposed. The dog is forever sticking his nose in squirrel and rabbit holes.

First it seemed like an upper respiratory infection and the vet in Quartzsite just gave us antibiotics. About a week later he had a lymph node on his shoulder open up and start draining and a lesion on his front leg open and drain too. Also still felt really hot and was still listless. We decided to go to the vet in Blythe, CA and there he was diagnosed with Valley Fever. He has been on fluconazole twice a day until last month. We still watch him for symptoms but he has gained weight back, runs around and seems fine! We can get refills if it comes back but it has been a little over a month now and we are hopeful!

So stay out of the dust storms!!!!! :)

Believe me, I do everything I can to avoid going out in a dust storm! The sand stings when it hits you and my eyes are all messed up!

The wind finally died down about 1030 last night. Had to make 2 trips up to the roof to nail down loose shingles and attempt to save some of the tar paper. Needless to say, we will have to buy another roll of paper. A little bummed about that. Oh well, such is life.

I thought we had tied down and secured everything, but those doggone aluminum roofing panels seem to have a desire to fly! I found them spread all across the property, the farthest was 3 acres away! The chickens rode it out in their coops and seem to be fine. I will have a few repairs to make to the run this morning, but nothing too serious. So I need to get moving...

Happy Sunday!

The wind and dirt storms were UGLY. I felt like I should slap on my ruby slippers and watch out for falling houses.
