Well, it looks like today's storm has passed, touch wood! The High Wind Warning expires at 10 pm, but I'm hoping the calm I am seeing out the window means it's over! The winds were a little weaker than the last storm but there were still a few gusts that were at least 65-70 mph. The rain came down hard several times in 20 - 30 min spurts. At least the power stayed on! And, of course, I will need to make a few more repairs to the chicken run again. The shade cloth "roof" does not like strong wind! Those silly chickens hid from the wind yesterday, but today they were running around in it. Maybe it was the rain... They seem to like rain. :idunno

How true! My girls really do seem to love it. If I really want to make them happy, all I have to do is make a big puddle in the run and they are as happy as the proverbial pig in s**t! :weee Two of them "dust bathe" in the wet sand! It's hilarious!

Well, not as many repairs to the chicken run as I had expected. Just a few spots where the shade cloth and chicken wire "roof" came loose. I had to chase a few starlings and doves out of the run. The doves are so stupid, they find their way in, but can't figure out how to get back out. The starlings know exactly what they are doing and always show up in swarms. I hate them!! :rant Anyway, I digress. It took about an hour to remove the shade cloth, reattach the chicken wire that had lifted and retie the shade cloth. Easy, peasy!!

On another subject... Yesterday, there was a thread about high prices and I was commenting on the high price of coffee and Snapshot suggested I check out Dollar General. Well, unfortunately, there are no DG stores in California (yet). I went to their website and first discovered that they do indeed have great prices on coffee and that they offer free shipping on orders of $25 or more! I then discovered that they will be opening 50 stores in CA in 2012 and the first one opens in February! They only listed a few locations of these new stores, so I dashed off an email to them and suggested, nay pleaded, that they open a store in our town. Well, today I received a response and it's not a standardized form response. I thought I'd get a generic "Thanks for the email, we'll pass it to the proper person". It was actually personally written to me from Jenny Smith, Customer Relations. No definite answer to my request, but it's nice to know that someone there actually read my email and that it really will be forwarded to the proper person. It's feels good to be heard and acknowledged. :thumbsup

You know, instead of chasing the doves out, you could invite them to dinner. :hide

I am amazed you got a personal reply from that big of a company! Remember it is Country Sunrise Blend that tastes like Folgers to me. Haven't tried the others. Glad you have reclaimed your chickens home and they are happy.

I don't know, they are those tiny mourning doves. It would take 20 of them to make a meal! Now, there are a couple of desert cottontails that crawl under the gate into the run. I might consider eating them... They are fat and sassy from the chicken feed they've been stealing!

True customer service, or even personal attention, is such a dead concept these days, it's awesome that you got a personal reply!

There is a multi-state grocery chain, that started right down the road from me. On any given day of the week, up until about a year ago when he got sick, the owner/ceo would work one day a week as the greeter at one of his stores. People could voice their opinions, complain or offer suggestions for better service to the main man, if they happened to be shopping that day! I always thought that was so cool. He also handed out coupons for free ice cream, which was great too :D He was kind of like a Sam Walton type person, who believed in staying in touch with his customers. Unfortunately, he passed away late last year and his kids are taking over. They seem more about the money, so I'm sure the store's will change, and NOT for the better, just like Wal-Mart did. :(
