Coffee is ready here. Laid out a package of boar steaks to cook tonight. Going to run ewes across the driveway to the working chute so I can put fresh vet wrap on Granny’s foot. I have to unroll wire from their night pen gate, to block off the field. Drag hog panels across driveway on one side, open gate on other side to get across the driveway. Put pan of feed in the chute and open night pen gate. They’re off and running! Drop gate in chute, then run them through until I get Granny in the short space, halter and tie her up, then play footsie. Then go put feed in the night pen. They will be bawling to go back, open drop gate and the race is on! Close the field gate, roll wire back up and done.
Granny tore one toe of her hoof from the hairline, it was open and flopping. So I have been keeping it “doctored” and wrapped to keep it from getting infected and/or tearing all the way off. She so wide and pregnant that she looks like a bulldozer with the blade down. I’ll be glad when she is all healed up.

I'm contemplating setting up a chute this next week, while I have time off. Might be a more perm one 🤷 but it's time for CDTs on about half, then booster later, work hooves, good time for it. Plus move and check my panels for extra kidding pods, clean barn out, do winter preps on water lines. I'm getting a lot of early winter kids, I think. Need buck pen re-fenced. Stuff here to do what's needed. Work has slacked, need weather to dry for me! Sounds like an opportunity for a helluva lotta work 😵‍💫

Need to bring in winter hay! I'm going to try a few round bales this yr....have storage area once I surround with that billboard tarp I bought. Gotta mow around, first. Have under shelter space to feed it....would be great during Jan/Feb.

I'm tired just typing this  🫣

I went through the contortions to get ewes across driveway and in the chute. Doctored Granny and was greatly encouraged. She has new hoof growing in!

I’m still keeping it wrapped so the old hoof doesn’t tear off, exposing the inner hoof. Granny is dressed in orange in the holiday spirit. Happy Halloween!

i had a mug of hot water this morning, with a teaspoon of brown sugar and some vanilla. that's it.

Mom said, "Barf!" she thinks vanilla tastes acidic. nope. not at all.

i picked up a bottle of cheap vanilla by accident and i'm not about to return it because i can use it in place of the really good stuff that we're beginning to run low on. i'm getting worried and angsty that i may not find it again to get more (the bottle we have is pretty old).

Have you made your own vanilla? I was reluctant to spend $12 on vanilla beans, but I haven't bought vanilla extract in years! It takes 6 - 12 months to steep. I still have my first bottles going. I top them off with more vodka. I have some fresh beans waiting for when I'm ready to start a new batch.

i'm pretty sure i can't find the exact beans being used to make the vanilla that i like, plus as i am researching this more it may be possible that the bottle we have is old enough that it may be the wrong kind that we should never have had to begin with. haha, oops. i really don't know now...

Yeah... once you have the good stuff......

There has to be some fancy great stuff (or fancy great beans) that you can find and mail order.
