Olive oil lamp is safer. They tend to go out if knocked over. Easy to make with a cereal bowl, or even a tea cup. Pull a cottonball and twist into a thicker wick to lay against the side of bowl. Cleans off Corelle and even my ceramic Japanese tea cups fine when done. It's the basis that button lamps were made from except hotter burning oils shouldn't have wick against side so button lamp was solution.
Votive lamps are olive oil with a wick.

You can float the wick through a cork.. punch a hole in the middle of the cork and push the wick through the hole...

Or... get a little bit of wire and twist it so it stretches from one side of the cup to the other side.. and the wick goes through the middle of the twisted wire.

I think I may have the best neighbors ever. the last PDS Tornado warning took out our flag pole. My neighbor said I see your flag pole broke. I said, yep sure did I need to go and get a new one. He said well don't go buy one just yet. Today we have a new farm made flag pole. If this one bends or breaks we have bigger problems than just high winds.

The white one is the broken one (not made in USA by farmer). The 20 ft gray galvanized steel pipe is our new heavy duty (made in USA by farmer) one.

After removing the existing 120 lbs of dried concrete. I sledge hammered the 4 ft long base down into the earth and added 160 lbs of cement mix this time.

Added 5 gallons of water and leveled the base. We will set the pole in the base tomorrow. Pretty cool design though take the top bolt out of the base and the bottom bolt acts like a hinge so you can lower the pole to the ground if you have to work on it.
