Olive oil lamp is safer. They tend to go out if knocked over. Easy to make with a cereal bowl, or even a tea cup. Pull a cottonball and twist into a thicker wick to lay against the side of bowl. Cleans off Corelle and even my ceramic Japanese tea cups fine when done. It's the basis that button lamps were made from except hotter burning oils shouldn't have wick against side so button lamp was solution.
Votive lamps are olive oil with a wick.

You can float the wick through a cork.. punch a hole in the middle of the cork and push the wick through the hole...

Or... get a little bit of wire and twist it so it stretches from one side of the cup to the other side.. and the wick goes through the middle of the twisted wire.

I think I may have the best neighbors ever. the last PDS Tornado warning took out our flag pole. My neighbor said I see your flag pole broke. I said, yep sure did I need to go and get a new one. He said well don't go buy one just yet. Today we have a new farm made flag pole. If this one bends or breaks we have bigger problems than just high winds.

The white one is the broken one (not made in USA by farmer). The 20 ft gray galvanized steel pipe is our new heavy duty (made in USA by farmer) one.

After removing the existing 120 lbs of dried concrete. I sledge hammered the 4 ft long base down into the earth and added 160 lbs of cement mix this time.

Added 5 gallons of water and leveled the base. We will set the pole in the base tomorrow. Pretty cool design though take the top bolt out of the base and the bottom bolt acts like a hinge so you can lower the pole to the ground if you have to work on it.

i rigged up a hanging small glass for when i was tent camping so i could read by candle light. used the small votives. the hanger was just some wire woven so it could not possibly let the candle fall out no matter how it got bumped or moved. never had any wax even come out of it (i was careful). i don't think i still have it anyplace... LED lights are now much much better and safer.

i do have several old railroad oil lanterns which are pretty safe and nice but the fumes are too thick for me. i have two in this room and we have two others around the house, but we never use them these days. decorative antiques.. or decorative antics is more like it. :)

Have a watch of the video, I learned a lot from her.

i'm trying to avoid side jaunts these days into YT because i keep getting sucked into watching a bunch of other things and then never get done the tasks i have in front of me that i really would like to get done instead. i do appreciate the pointers and helpful intents, but just can't go there much. a few music videos on Wednesday (oh look it's Wed already! eek!)...

Plus all dollar tree items removes the excuse of building a 72 hour emergency preparation kit is too expensive. Thats about all I have to say.

:)

A small deviation from my list of to-dos
I figured I could get this done while the grass is drying,

And before the land dries out and I cant

At 8am yesterday I got all the dead wood I had piled up from pruning the evergreen huckleberries last fall burned and some scraps, took until 12 to finish up. there was more dead wood to cut.----
Its TREE day today, the boys will be here at 8 to take down the 3 on the porch.

Then I got to work on my list. Finished the weed eating, turned the chicken run, got all the mowing done
I did not get the fruit trees done. And I didnt plant more seed. I worked outside until 4.
Sat and took a break at 4,, my old bones hate me.
