Hmmm, Ohio governor was very combative last night about the young adults/kids not following the state guidelines in social distancing.
Yea, I know some folks that aren't heeding the warnings too. It really aggravates me at times...

there's certainly alot of uncertainty. I find myself wondering if it's true or if its a hoax for some unknown evil agenda. that's EVEN more scary than a pandemic. I hope the former is true.

I dont see this thing blowing over in a month or two. China has been fighting it for 6 months and just now making headway. I just wonder how bad things are gonna get before they start getting better

America really is the land of the free, many of you would bawk at the regulations and restrictions we are subject to down under. It is all I have known, so I am mostly ok with it. One of the reasons why I enjoy international forums so much. Like a window into another world, different cultural practices and accepted behaviour. Always a joy to learn from others in unique ways.

I so agree. Different countries have different rules. Even within certain states in the USA there are odd differences. You need to know this if planning a move.

In general, we have no problems with butchering your own livestock here, for self use. Sales? Now THAT is where you have to be very careful -- often licenses and specialty/inspected facilities are required. I'm good with that. I can sell my fresh eggs to people, not my fresh, raw goat milk. But can get around the milk issues if done correctly. Veggies -- sell openly. All about knowing the laws/rules.

Hoping to get a good, productive garden in this year. Thinking it will be a great benefit....even more than in past times.

I will be canning more than in past few years, this year. This seems a prudent move for me. Extra chickens -- especially roos from hatchings -- and probably a goat will go to butcher for my own freezer. Had so much to can & freeze this year that I sold several extra, ready to butcher, roos. A feeder pig is "under consideration". Will make that decision in a month or so. No rush as it is simply a long term refill thought....like next winter. Just my usual thoughts of what I need.

Things can/will change as we see the closings, resupply and work available issues --- for everyone. I'm just fortunate that I can resupply myself and family, friends with own efforts. All due to.....CV-19 happenings.

Michigan has a pretty reasonable take on it so far, not too long ago they changed the regulations that you could sell some things as long as you marked them clearly where they came from and that they were processed in an uninspected facility. for a small producer this is adequate IMO as that means the onus is on the seller to be honest about what it is and how it was made and the buyer to be able to read the label to know what they are getting. for a small producer this gets them going and able to be productive without too many regulations.

i'm sure if problems come up people will speak up and it gets dealt with.

In WI "cottage" sales of farm-butchered poultry are pretty lax for those with fewer than X number of chickens. I forget but it was like 500. Egg sales are fine from the farm or delivery route, but we're supposed to have our coolers inspected for safe temperature for delivery.

We can sell acidic home-canned foods. Can't sell home-baked breads and things, but people do anyway. As long as it's not set up as a business with advertising, no one seems to care.

If SHTF, nobody is going to care about enforcing cottage food laws. IMO

Face masks are in short supply, as everyone knows. I found this. The addendum on filter materials for the filter pocket was especially eye opening; apparently vacuum cleaner bags are almost as good as surgical masks for filtering out stuff (probably the HEPA ones are best). I haven't heard of a run on vacuum cleaner bags yet.
