You feel like you need some bubbly sweet drink for the world to be right.
You need

kombucha!! Nature's soda! Soda with probiotics! Seriously, I used to have a one-a-day Diet Pepsi habit. It's hard to quit, but these days bubbly kombucha is a treat :D

A Coke or Pepsi product(or any soda for that matter) hasn't crossed these lips in well over 15 years now.

We won't discuss my Barley Pop though.... :D

I think one of the reasons I am not a big soda fan is my parents were not.

Mom has 1 soda per year if that...and never finishes it...LOL
Dad used to drink a little diet pepsi but stopped.

Soda is addictive. It replaced drinking water for so many people.

But lately I noticed ALOT more negative is finally coming out into the media about soda.

:ep :th You have just struck terror into this seriously addicted farmer!!!!

What would I drink? WATER!!! Have you ever seen what THAT stuff does to metal!!! OR even solid ROCK for that matter!! How will I wake up in the morning!!! How will I treat my headaches!!! :hit :hit :hit :hit

Now on a more serious note.

I think drinking a soda with natural sugar or even STEVIA (like they do in Japan) would be MUCH better for us all. (If we continue to DRINK soda that is). This is just another hidden agenda with those big SEED and CHEMICAL companies (you know who). They are lobbying for the high fructose corn syrup, so that they can sell MORE of their NASTY corn to the un-suspecting rabble! :rant

Fake sweetners are also dangerous. How many of them have been recalled since people have been making them? Stevia has not been approved for use in soda in this country yet and has DEFINITELY been given the slow track for approval, but has been in use in Japan for years now.

Natural sugar from BEETS could be easily and cheaply grown in this country, but I don't think there is much GMO patenting :tongue in the sugar beet as of yet. HMMM. :somad

You all should watch a little documentary called "King Corn". It will open your eyes to the FACT that corn in this country is really a government crop. If the farmers received NO subsidy from the government they would make NO profits with business as usual. So why is the GOVERNMENT paying farmers to raise corn for them? And WHY is it SO VERY important that we all consume SO MUCH high fructose corn syrup?

I have a friend that is allergic to the stuff and it is AMAZING how many different items contain high fructose corn syrup.

ok I feel better now. :/

Coke is much more than a soda company. They own quite a bit of food companies. If they stop selling their products at Costco it will be bad. If they are successful and other companies start making similiar demands it will be bad.

Wow... You've really got a chip on your shoulder about corn & HFCS.

:thumbsup COOL!

I'm a recovering soda addict. DrP is my not-so-secret vice. M&TG is right, the kombucha helps me. Used to drink 3-4 a day (no wonder I gained weight :/ ) I still drink them, but not as much anymore. I might go days without one. I order ice water in restaurants most of the time, tea if the water tastes funky. I'm very picky about my water.

Diane, what food companies are owned by coke? Not disputing, just curious :)

Go to the CocaCola website - having a hardtime linking on this forum - and scroll through all their products. Pretty much half the beverages products - about 3,000 worldwide. Pepsi probably owns the other half plus Quaker Oats and FritoLay. It is also #73 on Fortune500, the largest soft drink company and grew 10.5% last year.

My point is not that we will lose out on soda. (I don't drink it either.) My point is that if they can pull it off other companies will follow suit. Costco and other big box stores are cheap because they can set prices amoung suppliers. If food companies turn the tables, what will it mean for customers?

no big company will put their other products in jeopardy.

if costsco and coke don't agree about pricing etc on that one product, they won't carry that ONE product. you know coke company will not pull out its other products

coke company in the end must be reasonable. they will keep selling other products if their "other product" soda is not carried.

you think coke co. would pull all their products...no way....they are money makers.

it takes 2 to tango...companies need stores to survive. stores have alot of other company options also to make their sales.

I don't like big corporate control. So I still say screw them..LOL

I think the world can also do without Fritos and chips..LOL

Oats, alot of other oat options out there.

No, to me there is not total control over food. They might think they have it, but they don't. (my view of course.)

Food companies won't turn the table on all their products, they can't. They would be gonzo and other companies would fill in their spaces in a heartbeat.

I don't agree that you can just put another product in place of Coca Cola, Pepsi, FritoLay and so on. Brand loyalty, especially for soda, has quite a bit of weight. If Costco doesn't have the brand of soda someone wants, they will just go elsewhere. Costco is not the only place they sales popular food products.

This recently happened with Viacom and TimeWarner cable. Eventhough cable is one of the few outlets for Viacom, in the end TimeWarner had to give in and paymore for their channels.
