@CrealCritter, I've got an odd question for you. I don't know much about wood costs, or labor involved in these, but some friends and I have been having a conversation about simple caskets. Could you look at these for me, and tell me if these are marked excessively high for a "green" certification, or is that really an honest fair price? It seems crazy high for a simple rectangular pine box. Maybe I'm the crazy one. http://www.naturescasket.com/

Kind of a morbid question... but my honest opinion for something like that shouldn't be very much at al. Perhaps the biggest peice of woodworking is the handles.

I was in Scotland once, traveling in rural areas. They had some old stone buildings (including castles) in villages. I remember seeing carvings... and also painted decorations on ceilings in castles — with very similar sorts of design work.

I knew it was Celtic, of course, and I believed at the time that it was all done by Scottish artists and craftsmen. But who knows? The wealthy Scots may have hired Irish artists.

Finding more pictures of stuff I've made over the years. Here is a deck I built for my daughter who is left handed. It's made of bird peck white oak, the bottom rail carvings are supposed to be a dogwood flower. It's a girl's desk so I tried to soften it up with flower carvings. My "softening" skills are not all that susessful, I might add, but the desk is still better than made in china

More old pics... My wife has a "thing" for pine so when I remodeled her 12' x 16' kitchen, I built her cabinets out of quartersawn southern yellow pine that I cut on my sawmill and kiln dried, then milled in my wood shop. Yep and trim to match (she love me long time for that!) This was a complete teardown to the studs with new electric, plumbing, windows, sheetrock, paint, etc...

Pics are of the work in progress. Ofcourse my wife wanted the stove in the corner so I had to get creative with the wall framing, which carried over into the cabinets.
