Thanks Deb for the info! I have till spring to look into all of this so I have some planning to do :D

Hugs thx everyone for the kind commits on my bunny! his main wifie big mama is due this weekend so I'm hoping to find a nice spotted buck in her litter... :fl but I'm still going to have to find a nice Flemish giant buck to replace him... I don't know of any local breeders I'm I'm probably going to have to wait till spring (we have a pretty big swap days then) which stinks because that means I can't breed for spring babies unless I cross them out with my new zealand buck... That's fine if I'm breeding for me and meat but I was planning on selling most of the Flemish... we have 3 new females that was going to be ready for breeding this spring...

The flemish are the big brutes, arent they?
Yes I love them! the most laid back rabbits you could ever own... Big Papa was about 16 lbs and my one breeding female (big mama) is about 20lbs She is preggers right now and ready to pop so she is actually about 22-23lbs! When she stretches out she is almost 3 feet long! and surprisingly she is much easier to handle than my son's pet mini rex! We would always get big papa out of his cage and just let him chill with us in the front yard when I would sit out in the evenings... he wouldn't go more than a few feet from you searching for yummy greens and when you were ready to put him back up he would come to you when called!

Yes I have a flemish cross of some sort. She is HUGE and cant stand her ears up, they just fall to the side. And she is the only one I can rub around on.

well I'm on baby watch tonight! I have 3 does ready to pop... 2 new zealand whites and my Flemish Giant... I got to feel the babies kicking in their bellies! the Flemish Giant is bigger than she ever has been! she usually has 10 babies... :bun

we tarped off the hutch earlier so no drafts could get in... I added a 60watt bulb under each of their nesting boxes to help heat it... I just checked no babies yet but it was warmer inside the cage (not a ton but with a low of 20 tonight any heat is better than nothing...)

The 2 new zealands have the whole boxes lined with fur! (they both have had litters before but this is the first time since I've owned them) one has hair everywhere... poor girl must be bald on the belly! :gig such a good mama...

my flemish is a lazy procrastinator... she always waits till like 10mins before she has them... and she usually goes a day late... so she may wait till tomorrow... poor girl looks miserable though...

Here is big mama's pregger belly! :love

She didn't like having her pic taken so she jumped in her box...

The other 2 girls didn't even come out of their box to say hi... hahaha

This one said to leave her alone she is fat and miserable... :gig

Well so far so good! They all had their babies last night around 11pm :bun I checked and all are healthy... :weee still don't have an accurate count cause the little squirmy critters just won't hold still... It's so cold I don't feel safe taking them all out just yet so I try to do a real quick check... I wanted to take pics but it's just too cold to have them out...

But my young NZW snowcone had about 6-7 babies... The older doe snowflake had 4 big babies! and Big Mama my FG had about 9 I think... only one had spots though lets hope its a boy! :fl

But I just checked on them again about an hour ago and they are already getting fuzz! woo hoo! Tues it's supposed to get down to 14 so I really hope they get fuzzy fast to help keep warm...

Adding hay around them works. My big female did that to her babies. When do they usually start giving more than 2 each litter?

I've always raised the larger breeds and they always give tons of Kits each litter... this litter of 4 is the smallest I've ever had... But dwarf breeds give smaller litters of like 2-4... my Flemish has always had 9-10 and always does well of raising them all!

They usually have larger litters when young... and as they age the litters get smaller... I'm wondering if my New Zealand snowflake that just had 4 is getting too old to breed... I'm going to try breeding her again in spring if she has another small litter I will retire her... I'm not sure her exact age but the guy I bought her from said she was about 2.5 years old.
