Thank you.

Continuing from another thread so we don't hijack it any more than we have.

You are a nice person getting up so early to fix your hubby's lunch. I get up at 5 on my work days, fix my own breakfast and lunch. I let my wife sleep then wake her up when I leave. She does help the night before with things like cutting up fruits and vegetables for my lunch.

It's kind of been that way our whole marriage. When we were having kids she got up and fed them because I had to go to work and she could take naps and sleep in. I also think she didn't want to mess with the whole thing about saving breast milk for later feedings.

I was watching TV the other night and saw a commercial about buying local produce and buying from farmers' markets because of fuel and everything. I was thinking, wow, that is really great. Then the clincher;

Thank you

Nice person getting up, huh? LOL thank you, but it's purely selfish reasons, I assure you!

Get up, pack hubby's lunch, have morning cup of coffee with him, make him a quick breakfast, kiss as he goes out the door.

Then (and this is the important part) I get an entire hour to myself before kids are up!

I see. An hour of time for yourself. It can be very therapeutic.

Congrats on the deer. I know you feel better now that you can add yourself to the list this year.
While reading your post about enjoying the dusk turning to dawn I remembered one of my deer stands. It was at the very back of my property right next to a creek. I would walk back, with my gun, a book and my cross sticth. I would sit and watch the darkness turn to daylight, the otter play on a sandbar, read a while, cross stitch a while and not really care if a deer showed up or not. There were several times I just let the deer that did show up graze on by. I figured why mess up a perfectly good lazy day with dressing out a deer. LOL Unfortunately that property is gone along with the deer stand. At my current location I don't have anywhere to hunt without having to drive for forever and pay anywhere from 1500 to 2000 a year for the pleasure. Needless to say. I just don't hunt deer anymore.
Anyway, great looking deer and sure wish I had some of that deer meat. Hopefully my stepson will kill a deer this weekend and bring me some meat.

2dream,

I loved your post. To me deer hunting is so much more than bringing home a deer. It is being out and enjoying nature.

I have 100 acres that adjoins national forest. Maybe we could work something out if you wanted to do the nonresident hunter thing.

In my photo behind my stand and blind is national forest.

I read that congratulations are in order dacjohns. Good job. Sorry it took two shots tho, I do know that is upsetting to have that happen.
As far as the skinning and gutting......we will gut in the field as long as we are done at that particular blind. My dad will haul them home if we arent. We do not skin in the field.
Deer heart recipes......the only one I would even have an inkling of is pickled deer heart.....Just make your pickling solution and cook the deer heart in it......or can it in it like you do pickles.

I haven't said much on my own thread the past few days. It has been work, come home, make a few replies, try to do some chores, and go to bed.

One would think that I would be all sad and lonely with my wife half a continent away and tomorrow being being Thanksgiving. I'm lonely but not sad. So many of the posts I read this evening put a smile on my face. Thank you all.

I'm going to my sister-in-law's for Thanksgiving and I'm providing the cranberry relish. None of the store bought gelled cranberry sauce, this is fresh cranberries with some other things. I would tell you the recipe but it is a secret. So I have some work to do still this evening.

dac - I sure wish you would give me that recipe. I have never had a real cranberry sauce that I like. I usually just do that canned jellied thing. Real cranberry sauce (the ones I have had) are just to bitter for my taste.
Enjoy your Turkey Day.
