Despite all the sales the holiday is NOT Presidents Day, it is Washington's Birthday.

Doesn't it also generically cover Lincolns birthday? I remember when I was in elem school that we "celebrated" the two holidays separately with school work specifically about each president. And we were in school those days I'm pretty sure. :D

Washington's Birthday is a Federal holiday. Lincoln would be a state or local holiday. Illinois also has Pulaski Day.

U.S. Office of Personnel Management said:
This holiday is designated as "Washingtons Birthday" in section 6103(a) of title 5 of the United States Code, which is the law that specifies holidays for Federal employees. Though other institutions such as state and local governments and private businesses may use other names, it is our policy to always refer to holidays by the names designated in the law.
The State of Illinois said:
2009 State Holidays
New Years January 1
Martin Luther King Day January 19
Lincoln's Birthday February 12
Washington's Birthday February 16
Memorial Day May 25
Independence Day July 3
Labor Day September 7
Columbus Day October 12
Veteran's Day November 11
Thanksgiving November 26 & 27
Christmas December 24 & 25
Hmm, Looks like Pulaski Day as a holiday went away. Maybe it's a local thing now.

I'm not much for conspiracy theories or conservative talk shows but I still starting to think that maybe there is something to it all.

I'm angry, frustrated, and confused with the economic crisis. It supposedly started with the housing crash; bad loans, etc. Financial institutions got money from the federal government to help bail them out and get the money flowing again but they still won't lend money.

I like saving endangered species but economic stimulus money for an endangered mouse? Can't we still protect the mouse and use the money for something else.

Fairness doctrine. If you don't like conservative programs then change stations/channels or turn the radio or TV off. This is infringing on freedom of speech and freedom of the press.

Nationalizing banks.

Taxing the miles you drive. This is from Massachusetts.

I fear we are not heading slowly away from the America I know, we are in a headlong plunge.

I know what you mean.... this whole thing is frustrating to me too. There are too many extra's in there right now for the type of situation that we're in right now.

I have been reading this book called The Worst Hard Time and it's about the Dust Bowl. There are too many similarities between this situation and the Great Depression/Dust Bowl that's its realistically alarming. I don't like it when any kind of group tries to draw me into any kind of hysteria.(ie the conspiracy theories etc) This current situation that the country is in, I feel is different from conspiracy theory fodder. One bad decision after another after another after another draws from the law of averages if not common sense: Keep on making terrible decisions, no matter what side you're on and who is supposed to benefit, and you're going to end up with a grave crisis on your hands. Whether it ends up good at the end of this thing or not, I feel like there is a very real potential for some really hard things to come.
