So.....We are having fresh deer for dinner? What time?

Way to go Dac.

The only deer in this house so far this year is the 10 point buck that ran into my stepsons truck this past week. He was coming from a day of huning with no luck. The deer ran into the side of his truck. He jumped out and finished the deer off, loaded it up and went back to a friends house. They dressed it out. He figured he should get something for that messed up truck. Unfortunately, one side of the rack was messed up. He said its the biggest deer he has seen in 4 years. LOL
:gig

One morning I was on my way to drive my kids to school and there was a dead deer right in the middle of the road (outskirts of suburbia but no where near rural!) when I drove back thru an hour later it was GONE! All I could think was that someone (here in suburbia!) nabbed it...I had visions of a deer hanging in someones front yard completely out of place!

Well the funny thing is that you would not expect anyone around here to pick up a downed deer.....they don't even want veggie garden lest the mess up the landscaping!

Dac.....Congrats!:celebrate two in one day is pretty incredible!
How long will that feed you and your family?

First deer was Friday morning. Two hours after the season opened. The second deer was Saturday afternoon. I was out about an hour.

The bad thing is I have two guys hunting my property right now and they have been unsuccessful. I almost feel sorry for them.

I'm not sure how long the deer will feed us. Both deer were probably less than 100 pounds live weight. Deer are really quite small and you don't get all that much meat off (less than 50 % of the live weight) of them even if you are being extremely thrifty and careful. A lot of the meat will go into jerky and some will get ground.

Just saw 5 deer crossing our field then right after that one of the hunters came out in the field. Showed which way they went but no shots yet.
