Shotgun, Illinois does not have a rifle season; shotgun, muzzle loader, handgun, and bow. Bow season shuts down during shotgun season which is a split season. Three days the weekend before Thanksgiving week and 4 days the weekend after Thanksgiving week. I'm not sure when muzzle loader and handgun is.
I do hunt some during bow season.
With my 100 acres I get two free property only landowners tag for gun season and two for bow season. Makes for a lot work if I harvest that many deer.
Tomorrow I will probably be doing some processing and maybe a little light hunting.
I have bow hunted for years and have pretty much given it up, but I had a friend hunting here this morning. We decided that he should hunt my No. 1 stand, and at about 7:30 A.M. I was to sneak in about 100 yards behind him and do some rattling. The idea was to try to pull a buck by my shooter, but in this case the buck came in behind me. I got him within about 60 yards before he blew at me and ran off. This particular buck has been hanging around my pasture all summer, and he's quite the handsome brute. I would guess his antlers are about an 18 inch inside spread with height of 10 or 11 inches.
Sometimes these traps that I set up work, and sometimes they don't.
So.....We are having fresh deer for dinner? What time?
Way to go Dac.
The only deer in this house so far this year is the 10 point buck that ran into my stepsons truck this past week. He was coming from a day of huning with no luck. The deer ran into the side of his truck. He jumped out and finished the deer off, loaded it up and went back to a friends house. They dressed it out. He figured he should get something for that messed up truck. Unfortunately, one side of the rack was messed up. He said its the biggest deer he has seen in 4 years. LOL
