I don't dwell on it much either. I just shake my head when people start getting passionate about it without thinking about all the costs.

Maybe I should a thread. Maybe not. It will get shutdown within three pages.
yea about 3 pages --good guess.

but somehow buried in all those questions are the answers I think. How to go about that, I am not sure, but without experimentation on improved ways of technology, how else can we hit on the best?

see, I am thinking again...bad FC! :)
If you're gonna think...take it to facebook :gig

I just got five of my chickens back and I don't know what all has been happening with them. They haven't received any supplemental light. I don't know when they molted. One of the hens is old and past her prime.

The days are getting longer and I'm not stressing about the lack of eggs yet. One of these days I might put the timer and a light in the coop. But by then the days will be laying length.

Timer and lights make all the difference :) But if you're happy eating two eggs a week, then hey, wait until it's warmer to start messing around in the henhouse...it is mighty cold this time of year!

Got another egg today. This one has a different color so I think I have at least 2 hens starting to lay again.

We have been getting what is for this area sustained cold temperatures. It usually will be below freezing for a few days then we get a few days above freezing.

This year we have have quite a few days where it has not been above 20 and the lows have been near 10 or lower. This morning the shower drain was frozen. This is a shower not a bath tub with a shower head. It will only hold about 1 1/2 inches of water. Luckily it thawed pretty quickly. I have a slab floor so I couldn't go in a basement or crawl space to hit it with some heat.

So, if it is unseasonably cold make sure you keep your drain pipes flowing.

Got an egg yesterday. Woot.

Got another egg today. Things might be picking up.

It's close enough to the middle of the month to say it's mid January. About 2 1/2 months into the heating season and we've burned 2/3 cord. Have about 2 1/2 months left and it looks like enough wood is cut, split, and stacked to get us through. Have about a cord that is cut and piled but not split. Have lots more dead trees in the woods that can be cut and easily split if we need for this season.

Those dead locust are hard on a chain, don't smell real good, but burn good.
