I often wondered how one would figure out how much wood to cut if it was their only source of heat. I would hate to run out mid winter. Is it trial and error?

So the pipes in your slab froze? It must be cold. Buurrrr!!!

Stay warm.

We burned 10-12 cords every winter. The trick is to make sure you have alot more than you think you might need the first winter...ask the neighbors they will tell you what they are burning and go for the one who burns the most:>) It never goes to waste...it's even better seasoned the following year anyway.

Dacs we had some problems like that too. I usually pour boiling water down the drain if it isn't too bad a freeze

I'm am still catching up reading the threads after being gone a few days. Just wanted to add tidbit of info regarding the cost of technology.

Ethanol is a big deal here. I live about 20 miles from an ethanol plant. Ethanol actually costs more to produce than gasoline. If it was not for gov't subsidies the plants would be out of business. They also burn a petroleum fuel to run the plant to produce the ethanol.

Does this make sense????? :th Not to me...... But it is not allowed around here to criticize ethanol. A lot of the farmers sell corn directly to the plant. The plant pays more.

BTW, do you know the definition of a wine cellar? 100 farmers in the basement :D

The only thing that froze was the shower drain. My guess is the P trap froze. My bathroom is in a corner of the building so it has two outside walls. The slab has settled so there is an airleak that we can't get to without taking the siding off the building. This is the first time this has happened.

I imagine there are websites out there that will tell you how much wood you need based on degree days. One of the things to consider in using wood is that all wood is not created equal.

You can also ask around where you live and see how much your neighbors use. Then put up twice as much and hope for the best. Oh, that's what morel said.

I have a political link in the ads. Run away, run away before the site gets shut down.

It warmed up, the snow is all but gone, the ice on the pond is almost gone. That means the field is wet again, no tractor use or it will be a mess.

Sacramento last week for training. Kalispell next week for training.

Doing the airport shuffle again. Sitting in St. Louis, long layover. Next Denver for a dash between gates. Maybe I'll get the Jamba Juice craving. End up in Kalispell. Hope my luggage makes it.

We go through about 4 cords every year. Our goal is to purchase enough to keep the wood shed full and then if we need more we have it. We used to make our own wood but due to dh's back we purchase it now.

My luggage got there the next day. I hate flying.

No Jamba Juice but the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory shop sure smelled good.

Got home to 7 inches of snow which is mostly gone now.

Been splitting and stacking firewood. Some we got from a friend, some was piled up from earlier in the year and I've been slowly getting it down.

We've used just over a cord of firewood. I think two cords will do for a season but I want to have three cords ready for next winter. Have to make the firewood shed after the ground dries out some. Like in June or later.

Making banana nut bread today. Wanted to get rid of some ripe bananas in the fridge and freezer.
