Your stanchion will really really help! I forgot you were still working without one.

My goodness you are doing really well then. I don't think I would have much luck at all with my does without my milking station. No wonder you were getting discouraged. It will get so much better when their head is trapped in one spot and you have a level surface underneath them. Also gives you such a good way to stuff their food in their face so they just think about that and not what you are doing!

You'll get there Damummis!!! Glad to hear she's doing better in the poo department too. Acclimation (sp?) - that's all it usually is!

Can you say SUCKER? Cause that is what I feel like. I was told I was getting healthy animals. I trusted that I was getting healthy animals.

Yesterday while I was grooming the goats I noticed a lump on each of them by their shoulder. One bigger than the other. I called the man I bought them from, and he said, "Oh, I didn't notice anything. But you know, goats get cycts from just about anything. A splinter, bug bite, shot." He told me he wanted me to be happy. But now I just feel like a big SUCKER. I did my research, I fear it is CL. My DH thinks I am over-reacting until we lance it. I don't think I am. Dh also said that if we lance it and it is CL that then HE will deal with Farmer "B". I am so heart broken right now. I can't stop crying.

Oh don't cry!!!!!!

There's no way to know if it's CL until you have it tested. If the lumps are by their shoulders maybe that's where he gave them their shots. I had 2 wethers that were rehomed and the people were just like you, thinking I gave them wethers that had CL. I had to reassure them it was where I gave them their CD&T vaccinations. I now give those in the armpits so people don't freak out as much.

Just take a deep breath and have a vet look at them. If you don't have a vet near, watch the lumps. If they continue to grow and begin oozing, separate that goat (or both) and lance it. CL, from what I understand, is only contageous when it's "angry" for lack of a better word.

Yes, do check to see if they were given vaccinations. Very common to get lumps from that.

I asked if he had given them shots lately and he said no. He said they are always rubbing against the barn and getting splinters.

I have connected with these goats, and I will probably keep them and manage it with extreme care. I just feel like such a fool. I feel taken advantage of because I am green.

The vet is not an option, we got goats to be more SS in a hard economy as it is. I spent my last $$$ on this venture until next paycheck.
