Roll Farm over on BYH has dealt a lot with CL and there should be some threads over there where she gives advice. She would be the one to get info from on how to handle it. She has been dealing with it for years.

I don't have any good advice to add, but I know how you must feel. :hugs I'm hoping for a good outcome for you. I read on the Fias Co farms site that she stopped vaccinating her goats because of lumps like that.

I thought I was reading somewhere that CL can be manageable, it is CAE that is the one you really don't want to get. I hope your vet can assist you in getting a quick diagnosis.

And for what it is worth, I am very very SURE there is a sucker sign on MY forehead. This kind of thing seems to always happen to me, so you are not alone! :idunno

I have read every thread on BYH, it took all night. That is what made me realize I can handle this and give these animals a very good life. I understand it is not a death sentence, just like I wouldn't put down a cat because it had feline leukemia, I would just manage it.

Thank for listening guys.

I'm so sorry, Damummis. I can't offer advice, but have just sent a prayer for their good health & your peace of mind. Please try not to be so hard on yourself (altho I understand completely). :hugs

I'm glad you were able to get the info needed. At least you could make an informed decision on how to proceed. Good luck with them. It sounds like they will be in good care. :hugs

It really does sound like CL, so you need to decide if you will keep them....fast. Once one of those cysts breaks or is lanced, your property can be infected.

However, you are right, I agree it can be tolerated. I know someone who rescued goats and thinks they might have it. In her healthy herd, a cyst shows up only once every few years. Never tested, though. It may not even be that.

But his description.....they get them all the time and do a lot of rubbing, etc.....sounds like CL. Will he take them back? Can you get different does from someone else? You can check their whole herd over next time, if you choose to.

I'm not being a party pooper, just want you to consider all options. The decision you make now may affect your goat keeping forever. And you will have kids to sell.

Cleaned out inbox some. :D

I personally feel it is CL, without even getting them tested. I am keeping an eye on the abscesses. My brown doe's is the biggest right now.

Yes, Farmer "B" will take them back, but honestly, I don't feel that is the right thing to do. I just came in from addressing the brown doe's front feet. They are in real bad shape. The "nail" is curled completely under. Thank God, I am a licences manicurist. I am using the clippers I use to use on old lady toe nails. :gig

I feel things happen for a reason. I will keep them as long as I can here, but I have made the decision that when our place on the hill is built I will start a new herd with higher standards, but now I am going to give these beautiful ladies a chance.

From what I have read, stress can bring on an episode of CL. So the move from former place to your place could have set it off. It is VERY common. As long as you make sure that the ooze from the abscess does not get anywhere, and then teh scabs heal up, you should be ok. It's not the end all be all. I'm gonna be picking up a a doe tomorrow, and I am hoping she will not have it, but I will deal with it if she does.

Thank you for the support.

I know how it feels to not be able to afford the vet right now. :hugs

I've gotten so much help and support here in dealing with my goat issues and health problems without spending a penny.

I would be the same way once I bonded with the animals. Maybe that "sucker" sign we have is just God's way of showing the animals whom will love and care for them even if they are imperfect.

:smack to the guy who gave them to you. Why do I suspect he knew? :somad
